Could the caucuses get Freeped, altering their outcome? |
|
I haven't seen anything about this on FR itself, but I'm wondering if there will be a group of Republicans who will attempt to Freep the caucuses on Monday in favor of a certain candidate. The caucuses are extremely tight, and a turnout of about a thousand or more Freepers could change the outcome of the caucus.

1. Technically Yes, But Practically No |

It's going to be hard enough to get die-hard Dems out in the cold to sit for hours in a caucus meeting. I seriously doubt any Republicans could bother to be motivated to do so, especially since they know they'd never muster the numbers to make any kind of statistical impact.

2. It's possible, given that |

it's essentially an open primary. You're supposed to be a Democrat but can register as one at the door. Or maybe it's on an honor system, I'm not sure. But no one will be checking voter registration forms at the caucus.
You'd have to assume that thousands of Republicans who normally wouldn't go to a Democratic caucus would show up and vote ... for whom? What would be the point?
Even if they could get out enough people and really skew the result -- say giving Al Sharpton 40% of the vote, New Hampshire is just another week away and then there's everywhere else, and so a goofy result in Iowa won't matter.
And even throwing the Iowa thing to one other of the top four -- I'll let you to decide individually who that might be, again, won't matter if that man doesn't really have strong support elsewhere.

4. I think they would be exposed at the caucus |
|
Who would they vote for anyway? Dean? Sharpton? If they were for Sharpton, they'd have to defend their choice vocally and would be exposed as frauds in about 10 seconds.
