The NORTHEAST is overrun with Republicans......... |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-08-04 10:21 PM by Tweedtheatre
who are Governors. For a region that went 100% for Kerry, a 6-6 tie in Governors is pathetic. For all the calls of leaving the South and the Midwest, you guys in the Northeast should stop gripping and start getting to work to get these guys out of office, especially New Yorkers.
How are you guys in the states with Republicans governor going to get them out of office?
Northeast Governors: Tie 6-6
Connecticut Gov: Jodi Rell (R)
Delaware Gov: Ruth Ann Minner (D)
Maine Gov: John E. Baldacci (D)
Maryland Gov: Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. (R)
Massachusetts Gov: Mitt Romney (R)
New Hampshire Gov: John Lynch (D)
New Jersey Gov: James McGreevey (D)
New York Gov: George E. Pataki (R)
Pennsylvania Gov: Edward G. Rendell (D)
Rhode Island Gov: Don Carcieri (R)
Vermont Governor: James H. Douglas (R)

I think that we'd do well to make a concerted effort to secure a pure-blue New England, for a start. We know that Southern fundies have targeted NE for "missionary work". :eyes:

6. I understand that, but we could be grooming future candidates here |
|
Governors make the best Presidential candidates and the Republicans are blocking us from developing in six different states.
Plus, all these governors supported Bush. I'm sorry, but anyone who is okay with GW as President is NOT a moderate.
I also have to say that most of the anti-South and Midwest posts are coming from 'liberal than thou' Northeasterns who can't even get a Democratic majority with Governors in their region. Plus, the Senate ain't that great either. 14-7? 33% of the Senators from the Northeast are Republican. Get them out. Santorum, Snowe, and Chaffee are running in 2006. Get them to lose and then I'll accept crap against regions other than the Northeast.

8. Agreed, but Maryland seems more Northeast these days than WV |

I switched the two in my regional analysis. Yes, I realize why West Virginia was founded, but that's the way it seems to be.

Funny most thugs in NY consider Pataki to be a liberal... they hate him! Pro-choice, lots of social spending, for gun control...

While he obviously has to fit the NY mindset on social issues, he absolutely does not represent the interests of the average citizen on economic issues.

15. Romney is going down next election |
|
he has paid little attention to the needs of the state, and Massholes are geting sick of it.
BTW our congressional delegation is 100% Dem, and we just added 3 new Dems to our state legislature, which only has a handful of Republicans to begin with.

And I don't see Romney winning the next election. MA is the least of my worries, but Romney is a huge worry. There are rumors he will run in 2008 :scared:

29. Romney could NEVER take the GOP nomination |
|
He's simply too moderate. He had to be very wishy-washy on abortion rights to run in MA (i.e. in UT he was anti-choice, in MA he was pro-choice. Hmmm...) While he gets some props in Repuke circles for winning in MA, he's simply not Southern enough. He only ran for gov in MA because he was too moderate to run in Utah.
Romney's big push to elect more Repukes to the state legislature was a total blowout. The Repuke campaigns were uniformly nasty and uncivil - as called for by the national leadership - but they backfired. People were pissed. The Dems gained seats.
I can't think of any Repub person in the state who's positioned to run for gov in 2006. Romey will almost certainly get tapped by Bush for a fed position, maybe to head DHS. He wants to be president but it'll never happen. His lieutenant gov, Kerry Healey, is an empty suit only put in place as a campaign attack dog.
The Dems will take the governorship in 2006, my money is on our excellent state attorney general, Tom Reilly. If Romney sticks around and runs again he will be beat. I believe in 2006 we will also have a constitutional amendmend for helath care for all MA residents too :-)

He will never be able to go "national" becuase he is a mormon. He put 75+ republicans up for election in this last cycle and ALL OF THEM LOST. Poor Mitt. Hates gay marriage about as much as georgie.

18. Our Republican governors are like the Mary Landrieus of the north. |
|
Edited on Tue Nov-09-04 01:45 AM by tjdee
That's how I think of them.
Even Rudy Giuliani is pro-choice and pro-gay folks. The man has even cross dressed a few times. (on edit: I think he's so ambitious he doesn't care that he's up Bush's hiney. I also think he's been sound abnormally bizarre lately.)
Up here, we have a reasonably free exchange of ideas, and for the most part, our Republicans aren't scary wingnuts--with the exception of Rick Santorum, which is kind of disturbing. They have the typical Republican issues, but when they are elected I am not so terribly afraid I want to hide under my bed for the next four years.
Maybe I'm really idealistic about us "elitists". :) I am, though, really bummed about the GOP governor we're probably going to get here in NJ next time.

from what i heard from others in that state, when he ran for election and was campaigning he would not appear as right wing and in fact try to come across as moderate, or at least not as fanatic as we see him now. Teresa Heinz Kerry did seem to see through him early on though when she made some comments on how he was extreme and nothing like the republicans like her first husband john heinz who were more moderate.
i'm hoping we can get rid of him and Pennsylvania turns into those other states mentioned where nobody like Santorum could win.

while he has a lot of knowledge of the issues she never considered herself as ready or wanting that type of role. she still considers herself mostly a wife, mother, grandmother etc.
and of course she is married to Kerry who is in the senate and that would be kind of odd to have both in there.

I haven't voted for him, but I can't say he's a horrible governor just because he has an R next to his name. He's especially liberal on social issues.
