"Jesus speaks through the Republicans."
http://www.mcall.com/news/opinion/letters/all-balboanov08,0,3274850.story?coll=all-newsopinionletters-hed
(Letters to the Editor, Morning Call newspaper, Allentown, PA)

I hope the election of George W. Bush is seen as a wake-up call to all the liberal Democrats who oppose God's will.

It is His doing that George W. Bush is still our president. Millions of born-again Christians helped win this election through our prayers and votes. Jesus speaks through the Republicans.

The Democrats will not be able to win elections until they renounce their sinful ways and stop encouraging abortions, gayness, and trying to take away our guns.

Earl Balboa

36. The people where I am are the moneyed, yuppie version of this guy.
The underlying beliefs, and support of Bush, are much the same, but they like to put, shall we say, a more genteel face on their expression of such beliefs.

All the more sad that this guy is out of a "blue" state.

8. I was told the day after the election
in a gentle sort of way by a fellow employee that the Democrats need to adopt Christian principles (because, you see, we live in a Christian nation) or we will never win a national election again. Needless to say, I was so stunned by his remarks that I was tongue-tied.

There are many more out there like him, folks. It's a scary country we live in right now.

39. Ask him/her where she stands on bearing false witness.
And was it all right to slander John McCain in 2000 and John Kerry in 2004. Ask her/him where in the Gospels Jesus okayed torture and putting people out on the street and giving more and more money to the rich.

Frankly, I'm becoming increasingly convinced that people who speak like your co-worker don't actually read their Bibles or are so puffed up with pride that they think they can just make pronouncements about everyone else's lives. I work with someone who I first thought was well-meaning and I now think is truly on an ego trip.

I've never seen abortion or homosexuality mentioned in the Ten either. And I've still never gotten a single fundie nut to show me exactly where in the Bible Jesus preached against either sin. I've found plenty of passages where he condemned the wealthy, told his followers to help the least among them, and fought the injustices and tyranny of the ruling authorities. But not one sinlge iddy bitty mention of abortion. Hmmm...

"...the scary thing is that which truly controls the repub party these days."

Hi AmandaRuth. I see more of the opposite - the Republican party leadership controlling and manipulating Christians.

Yes, the Dominionists - rich and powerful political men who claim to be Christians - control the Republican party and fan the flames of the bigotry we are seeing. The Dominionists are controlling the rank and file Christians through mass media with very clever and sophisticated propaganda.

The Dominionists will turn on the Christians as soon as they are done using them to gain power.

Want to shock the next Christian Bush voter you talk to? Inform them of these little facts - Bush does not attend church regularly and belongs to no congregation, and has been censored by his former congregation in Texas.

The last very, very conservative Bush voter I told that to said "What??? Do you mean to tell me that George and Laura Bush sit home on Sunday morning???" Yep.

I know that it is going to be very difficult for many to have any sympathy or understanding for Christians after the hateful way that the Bush administration has turned them against their own neighbors, but Christians are being seriously manipulated in the worst possible way. Their faith is being used to cause results that are the opposite of their faith.

So much of the hatred has been fueled by people like Limbaugh and Coulter. They are not Christians in any way, shape, or fashion.

25. Most fundies refuse to read the Gospel of Mathew
because it contradicts all of their greedy bullshit.

Beside by the time the New Testament was written, most of the good parts had already been thrown out.

If you want to read the real teachings of Jesus & his apostles, the Nag Hammadi library is a much better source.

19. You know
I have the worst feeling there going to ramp up this form of thinking more so so they can pump out a large # Stormtroopers
on the faith front.
for a few reasons 1. They don't care what attracts people to there faith ( Be it hate, conversion at the point of a gun, putting your religious holidays on top of other religions as long as it puts more asses in the seats there all for it.)
2.once this form of faith is cemented in this form of political thinking you wont be able to change them you could basically lump a pile of evidence right next to them but it won't matter because we will always be wrong since The Faith dictates it.
So all your pesky facts and questions don't matter because they are infallible and if we question there faith they will take it as were attacking it.
3.after they get a lot of people that are like minded in # 1 there going to start an outreach program to any one that doesn't think like them and by out reach i mean conversion through intimidation.
4. If 3 doesn't work they will move to tactics like that used on abortion clinic's and there doctors usually the ones that end in boom or a bang.

Evey time one these extremist stands up and start saying that stuff I think of this because they are a truly a frightening group of dimwits.

32. Sheep or Goat?
Dear Earl Balboa,

If you had spent more than a few minutes studying your Bible, you would note that the mass killings of innocents that precede the Rapture are not those perpetrated by Jesus and his supporters, but by the Anti-Christ and his supporters. You will also note that in the "End Times" God gathers up the people in his hands; in the right hand he gathers the sheep who understand the messages given to Jesus by God to preach to all people, in the left hand he gathers the goats who are the ones who were fooled by the Anti-Christ.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, George W. Bush sat in a school classroom in Florida reading a book to a group of children. The book's title was "My Pet Goat."

Any questions?

Sincerely,
The (ironically-titled) "Evil Queen"

49. Check out this letter to the editor
Maui, Hawaii

God was behind the re-election of Bush

God is great. He had his mighty hands in the re-election of President George W. Bush. The handwriting was on the wall. He favored and endorsed President Bush, and 58-million-plus Americans followed him, too.

The Republicans might have not won in Hawaii, however we won the prize – the presidential election and a Republican Congress that President Bush can work with favorably.

Here are some facts: If you voted for those who favored appeasement, a million terrorists love you. Appeasing the terrorists is like feeding a crocodile hoping it will eat you last.

God bless America, the Iraqi people, our troops and their families, the world, and President George W. Bush.

Meiling Akuna

Haiku

http://www.mauinews.com/story.aspx?id=3110

thankfully, an overwhelming majority of the letters are critical of Bush's re-election.

Darn it... after I wrote this....I realized that Earl was not posting this on DU. Nonetheless

Hi Earl,

My name is Steve I have been a Christian and evangelical Christian for 24 years. I love the Lord. He is my savior..He is my king.

I want to challenge you on a couple of points as a Christian...as a brother in the Lord.

What is more important to the Lord. That all might know him and the magnificent glory of His resurrection or that we attack liberals ate every turn.

How do you think liberals feel when they are harangues all the time by people like your junior senator who call them evil and others say they are going to hell?

Is that any way to speak to some one is lost? On of the great shame of the religious right is that they have made conservative politics a litmus test for Chrisitanity...I know many Christians who have walked away from the Lord and community because of intolerance and bigotry within the Church.

I fear that many in the Church are more concerned about political power than they are about leading people to the Lord.

My take on it is yes...the world is getting darker...it does not surprise me at all that this is ocurring...and If you read your Bible Diligently neither should you.. But Jesus never ever in all of scripture did anything to judge the world...Be assured he judged the world..He certainly judged the Pharisees.

So before you gloat and Boast about Republicans having the ear of the Lord exclusively...I would admonish you, as a brother in the Lord, to consider that Judgment begins not with the world but in the House of the Lord. I remind you the Jesus Christ came as a humble servant to save the lost. I encourage you to read Deuteronomy 28 about what happens when the people begin to rely on princes and kings rather than on the Lord for their Survival.

I tell you that the arrogance of the Religious right is like that of the Pharisees. Prideful and exclusive, pushing away the hurting and the lost because they do not believe as they do.

It not about politics Earl...its about Jesus Christ, he crucified.

Now specifically. All liberals are not baby killers and you should be ashamed of saying so.

This is precisely what Jesus spoke against when He criticized the Pharisees.

We as Christian are commanded to walk in utter humility and do justice day by day. We are obliged to to evangelizenot to speak viel jusgement

I am A democrat and I am a Christian/ the Republican Party is not the arbiter of my faith...Jesus Christ is.

I do not oppose God's will. and the Republican Party does not speak for me. You sir are behaving like a pharisee
