8. Squeezing jello in Iraq |

By Scott Ritter While the Bush administration has suppressed the formation of militia units organized along ethnic and religious lines, the 36th Battalion should be recognized for what it really is – a Kurdish militia, retained by the US military because the rest of the Iraqi Army is unwilling or unable to carry the fight to the Iraqi resistance fighters. http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/718AE278-58EE-431F-8045-5A3F505021B8.htm

2. It's been widely reported in the news. |

The Captain who defected before the assault was a Kurd. B$$$co is actively promoting Civil War in Iraq. The only thing preventing it now is their mutual hatred of the Occupying Force.

3. You know, this might be very revealing. Incompetence or strategy? |
|
All along, we've all talked about how inept and incompetent the post-invasion effort has been in terms of stabilizing Iraq.
Letting former military melt into the landscape with weapons. Not guarding arms depots. Spending only a fraction of rebuilding money for rebuilding. Not employing Iraqiis in rebuilding. Shutting down Iraqi newspapers. Abu Ghraib and release of photos. Installing a CIA associate as head of government. Pursuing a January election even though most everyone agrees that it will be highly flawed. And more...
Now, using a couple of thousand Kurds to kill Iraqi insurgents in Fallujah cannot contribute to a positive Sunni and Shiite attitude towards the US and the Kurds. The Turks and Iranians probably don't dig it either.
Maybe it is not incompetence. Maybe it is a willful effort to destabilize so that we stay there longer, so that more countries in that region are pulled in, so that more Muslims are angered and driven to participate in a growing war. Maybe this is only the beginning?
Think about it. Hands off on the Israel/Palestine issue for two years, letting the thing get nasty until finally Israel just has to erect a wall. Hands off on N. Korea until they become a nuclear threat. Hands off on Iran until they become a nuclear threat and we start talking about having to take action. And in Iraq, it looks to me like we've done everything we can to make it as bad as possible.
Incompetence or strategy?

I think leaving the weapons caches unguarded had to be deliberate. What else would the insurgents have to fight with besides these weapons? Other than their rifles.Bush sure wouldn't want the war to be over too soon because then the puppet gov't he installed would be too obvious and the resisters would be massacred without weapons. With weapons, the resisters will still be killed, but it looks more fair.

6. If those ARE Kurdish troops, |

expect the Sunni resistance to increase even more.
