Poll question: Will Condi Rice be confirmed as SOS? |
|
Edited on Tue Nov-16-04 04:27 PM by Lone_Wolf_Moderate
The question of whether she should be confirmed isn't really the point. The point is, will the Dems fold and let her through, or will they try to block her? I say just let her through. She's already there, and there's no real reason to waste energy on her, when there are tougher battles ahead.

She's already hanging around, doing damage. Save the Dem strength for somebody else.

2. I don't see any way that she's not. |

Save the filibuster for the Supreme Court. We're gonna need it.

get a few good licks in while she's under oath...or at least see if she tells the same stories about 9/11.

5. We will be impotent in the Senate |
|
I'm not even certain the Senate Dems will be united enough to sustain a filibuster against a Shrub nominee until nearer the midterms.
God help us. Dark days. :(

A president who wins an election traditionally gets to choose his own cabinet. I am sure the Senate will honor that tradition. We lost guys - if we don't get some dems in the Senate, we are dead. We have no power to investigate, no power to hold hearings, quit dreaming about dems "rolling over" etc. Bottom line is, they can't do shit. What are you doing in your state to get a dem elected to the Senate? We need to get more organized. Some of us live in states where the dems aint' gonna win, others live in competitive states. We need to get all our efforts focused where we can win.
We are in deep doo doo. In Bush's first term, we were only down by one seat. This time around, we are down by seven, which means we have to win eight Republican-held-seat elections to take power in the Senate, an almost impossible task. We need to get our shit together.

8. I agree completely. As much as it hurts, |

we lost. Nothing is gained by being petty. If there's a real reason to block a nominee, then they should do it, but to just block nominees out of spite is bad politics and bad form.
Besides, Bush is going to push his agenda through, no matter what. It's better to just give him his nominees, and when he screws up, he can blame no one but himself.
The SCOTUS is another matter, I realize, but you know what I'm saying.

13. I agree, we need more shit together or we end up like Nader. |
|
But I have a feeling our good points will out shine their rotten shit in due time.... but do we have the time? The answer is NO, we don't.
We must do something to really win the day....

but hopefully the confirmation process will remind some people of how hopelessly incompetent this Administration was before 9/11, and how they lied about Iraq in the lead-up to war. Perhaps a little of Bush's political "capital" will be expended by reminding the people what shitheads run his government.

11. In the process of her inevitable confirmation, the most we can hope for |
|
is to ask a few questions that she ducked in the 9/11 hearings. She'll be confirmed with a huge majority - dem and rep - but we should make her squirm first.
Also demand her hair gets back to its rightful owner - Olive Oyl.
I despise this incompetent woman. In my view 9/11 is hers. She owns it. I can only hope history will agree.
