"Clark campaign hires former McCain adviser "
RON FOURNIER, AP Political Writer Monday, January 19, 2004

(01-19) 10:30 PST DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) --

Wesley Clark, seeking a bipartisan flavor for his presidential campaign, has hired a former adviser to Republican Sen. John McCain to be his senior strategist.
...
Weaver was one of a handful of aides who helped McCain upset Bush in the 2000 New Hampshire primary on the strength of broad support among independent voters, who are allowed to cast ballots in Republican and Democratic primaries..."

Looks like Wes is well aware of the way McCain's campaign
was assinated by KKKarl after NH. It's good to have this
man on board; he knows their tactics firsthand.

1. Am I supposed to think more or less of Mr. Clark
Edited on Mon Jan-19-04 02:28 PM by poskonig
because of this? Clark voted for Republicans, appeared at Republican fundraisers, and now has Republican advisors. Wonderful.

2. Weaver Started Working for Dems After the 2000 Election
Edited on Mon Jan-19-04 02:30 PM by DoveTurnedHawk
That's how disgusted he was with the attacks on McCain by Bush and his gang.

Weaver is by most accounts a solid guy, and a brilliant strategist.

8. Sounds like an action
by a campaign that sincerely wants to reach out and bring home centrist independents and a few moderate Republicans. BTW, that is THE sound strategy for Nov '04 electoral success. The angry liberal vote is important but is far short of a winning majority.

I think someone who wins the support of avowed liberals like McGovern and Michael Moore and who makes these kinds of gestures represents a pretty broad-based threat to *.

My $.02

3. Looks like Wes thinks the only way he is going to win
is by bringing more right-wingers/conservatives into the party. No thanks Wes, we don't need them.

11. you people are so predictable
as evidenced by my post below.

The advisor had become a democrat before he joined Clark, well before

18. Typical
When a guy like Jeffords bolts the Republican party, he's hailed as a hero.

Weaver does it, and because he's working for a candidate besides your personal choice, he's still a right-winger/conservative out to subvert the party.

Gotta love the double standard :hi:

4. I think this is very ironic
that this guy for McCain who was all about getting special interests out of politics is working for someone who was a lobbyist before he was a Democrat.

Odd, isn't it.

16. Did You Know That Environmentalists Are "Lobbyists" Too?
wouldn't want someone who knows about National Security giving advise or helping to develope products called for in things like the Hart Rudman Report or the Gore Commission, now would we?

13. Just a note.
This guy was killed by Rove.

McCain's campaign was a mere shadow after SC.

17. You Forget Michigan
The problem with McCain's run was not only SC, but also that Bush had locked up the cash and establishment, so that even McCain's victory in Michigan couldn't save him.

As for Weaver getting killed by Rove before, good judgment comes from experience. And experience comes from bad judgment. I think Weaver will be ready this time.

21. But SC was brutal.
Nothing in this primary is even close to Chimp's attacks there on McCain. If nothing else, the value of knowing what he's up against is probably worth the hire.

9. Weaver is tops at his game
And yes, he knows Rowe. Great addition for Clark. I don't know if it was a coincidence or strategic, but the timing FOLLOWING Moore and McGovern's endorsements of Clark is perfect. First shore up Progressive Democratic credentials, then emphasis the broad base maverick insurgency of Clark's campaign. I suspect it was planned this way. Clark's campaign has been very sharp over the last month or two.

19. Laughable commentary from Dean supporters...
The Dean foreign policy advisor that showed up to the 1st LD meeting (Bothell, WA) representing the campaign wove his Reagan/Bush flag sky high; boasting about Dean's bipartisan approach on foreign policy and about how Republicans love Dean.

24. Dean is my 2nd choice
I don't see any reason to mock his supporters.

If Clark can't win the nomination or drops out before my state then Dean will get my vote.
