Talk Of Lieberman As Mr. Secretary
November 17, 2004
By DAVID LIGHTMAN, Washington Bureau Chief

WASHINGTON -- Joe Lieberman respects the presidency and likes being wooed. And so, he said Tuesday, he's not ruling out a Bush Cabinet appointment.

"I am a traditionalist," the Connecticut Democratic senator said. "If the president ever calls, you'd have to consider it. But I am very happy to be in the Senate."

At the same time, said Lieberman, "I don't expect an offer, and I have no indications that it will happen."

There's no opening the door a crack in Washington; you're in the game or you're not. And while there's no firm - or even flimsy - signal from the Bush team with regard to Lieberman, there is talk among the connected class in Washington that he could be in the mix for several positions.

There's a certain logic to considering Lieberman to join the GOP team, because he was a strong backer of the Iraq war and Bush's faith-based initiatives.

to attach himself to.

4. Hmmm...
Perhaps now CT can finally actually get a real Democrat in his place as Senator. He's been just as much of a Neo-con as the rest of these morons.

5. Lieberman
is a weak, media monger who should have never been selected by Gore.
He would sell his soul for the spotlight. What a wimp and disappointment and disgrace to the Democrat party.

6. Oh joy. Does that mean the (R) Gov. gets to appoint a Senator
thus moving them ever closer to the magic 60 and no more filibusters?

As awful as Lieberman has been on foreign policy, he's no Zellout by any means. On domestic issues his record is actually pretty decent -- a lot better than whoever Jodi Rell (R-Replaced Corrupt POS Windbag Rowland) would come up with, assuming she has the power to do so in CT.

15. unless Rell appointed Shays or Johnson
There is nobody within the state Republican party that could win an election statewide besides those two. I think Rell is highly questionable in 2006 due to her connections to Rowland. I mean, come on, we had 10 years of constant corruption with Rowland, and everybody around Rowland. Was Rell that out of the loop, or did she just turn a blind eye to it?

My dream would be that Dodd runs in 2006 and wins with about 60-65% of the vote and then appoints Dick Blumenthal, John Larson or Rosa DeLauro to fill out his remaining four years.

9. "Betrayal" is his middle name.
He was the worst VP candidate since that guy who ran with Barry Goldwater. He is useless as a senator. His sanctimonious attitude and holier than thou attitude just because he goes to temple really makes all clear thinking people gag. It would be just like him to jump ship with an interim Republican governor who seceded a crooked Republican governor. What a perfect cap to a career of hypocrisy.

Corporate America controls the media and we get manufactured news.
Corporate America now controls the voting machines and we get manufactured elections.

12. No Wonder
If you have to wonder why Gore ended up ultimately losing the EC you only have to say Joe Lieberman, The man is a nice person but he is just to nice and there is such a thing especially in politics. He is gonna be one of the Dems who want to roll over and have their bellies rubbed by Republicans.

13. Never fails to disappoint
Now that he's told us he'd consider being part of Team Bush, can there be any remaining doubt about this guy? Traditionalist, my ass.

And the stupid fucker had the temerity to use the stolen election of 2000 for big laffs in his presidential campaign, telling supporters of the Gore-Lieberman ticket, "Why, without support like that, we may have lost that election." That Joe, whatta card.

17. Bush would never call Bill Clinton.
He'd be totally outclassed.

Even if he did, it would not mean losing another Democratic Senator--even if he's not a very good Democrat.

She said that Bill feels that if the President of the United States calls you, you have to listen and that he would consider any role to help America, or something that effect.

21.  they can't trip him & put kick me signs on him at the library opening
or blow spit balls or anything. They couldn't give him a wedgie or noogie or have their Secret Service agents fight it out in a big game of tug of war, although that would be fun. You know, my Secret Service agents can beat up your Secret Service agents.

23. Put Lieberman in the lesser cabinet post, Homeland Security
I wouldn't mind Lieberman taking the lesser cabinet post as Homeland Security Secretary, because then maybe CT could run a better Dem for senate.

Also, if terrorists attack the US, we can blame both Lieberman and Bush at the same time.

24. "I am a traditionalist"
Those are the exact words that Bill O'Reilly uses to describe himself. It's code for "I'm a conservative but I have something to gain by trying to maintain an appearance of independence."

28. Has Bush asked him?
I haven't heard any rumors to that effect. I heard Bush was asking Nelson.

Nice of Lieberman to say he'd go if asked. Kind of lame if he hasn't been asked though.
