Frankly, I think it's good in the long run if Dean isn't DN/LC chair -- if he raises millions and wins elections, he'll drag the feckless DN/LCers with him. They'll follow anybody if they think they'll win.

And it allows Dean to run in '08.

What would be really cool is if he could get a big-name Southern ally -- is Clark or Edwards doing anything? -- to help him run DFA along with him. Sort of a good cop to Dean's bad cop, and a bridge-builder for him to work in the South.

We need a leader. The DN/LC are followers. Follow the leader and watch everyone else fall in.

Think of all the issues Governor Dean has confronted that the Washingtonians have for the most part totally ignored, taking on instead the easier softer issues.

With talk of all the electronic voting fraud/election problems,
Governor Dean is the leader who took on the electronic voting issue, and partnered with Bev Harris and Andy Stephenson to spotlight the issue on CNBC before the election.

Still-Secretary of State Colin Powell yesterday announced that the U.S. has evidence that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons. The problem is, can we believe this administration after we were so obviously misled in the past? As Bush himself has said, "there's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again." (11/17/02)

10. I believe Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons.
Bush named Iran as part of the Axis of Evil and invaded another Axis-of-Evil country, Iraq.

Iran wants nuclear weapons to prevent a US invasion, among other reasons.

11. Yes, That's One Totally Fucked Part of Bush's Foreign Policy
By invading Iraq while not lifting a finger toward a much more dangerous North Korea, he has absolutely encouraged the proliferation of nuclear weapons... as a deterrent to invasion by the US.

20. WesPAC
Intended to promote the Democratic party as THE party on issues of national security. :-) During the campaign, it was primarily devoted to supporting key Senate and House candidates; now, I'm not sure what the plan is, but I'm definitely watching carefully and supporting WesPAC, as well.

I'm sure someone will keep us posted on WesPAC here, and to the extent someone else doesn't, I will. :-)

Not sure about the partnering, but to me it sounds like a great idea. Hopefully the folks "in-the-know" will think so, too!

This is just totally AWEsome --

Dr. Dean makes a house call. Democracy for Illinois briefing.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1370064

(and read my post while you're over there. )

God, I love that man. In the nearly 2 years I've been a supporter, he has NEVER, and I mean NEVER disappointed me. Not once. There were little things I would find myself wishing he'd done a bit differently, but they were so minor. In every other case he exceeded my expectations and then some.

I was talking with my friend hedda_foil a few weeks ago, worrying about the possibility of Dean getting this DNC chair thing, and she wisely reminded me of his superb political instincts and that he'd never make a wrong choice. Happily, the choice was removed for him, which is great. That frees him up to do what the DNC isn't even interested in doing: building a party. As I posted in that other thread, I predict that there'll be a point he'll realize that the party he's built needs to be separate from the DNC.

Get active in DFA, people. We've got a party to build -- either the Democratic Party (if they don't run us completely off, and they sure as hell have tried), or the new EVERYONE's Party (except for the plutocrats and Christian Crazies) called (for now) DFA. Either way, we win.

Oh,and for those doubters -- yes, a new party would have a LOT of potential. Dean drew from Democrats, Libertarians, Greens, Independents, True Conservative and Rockefeller Republicans alike. That's one helluva coalition.

But all that's a bit a step ahead. Like I said -- we build a party either way. Let's get busy.

32. LOL! You're in the right place.
No DFA and DLC are essentially two opposite sides of the coin,

and/or two very different organizations.

DLC, from what I understand is a much more conservative branch of the Democratic party. So conservative, that apparently one of its leading members happened to vote for Bush in 2000.

38. Here's an LTTE I submitted today to The Day, Eastern CT newspaper
It was this blue-state Republican's favorite Democrat, Zell Miller, who called his party “a national party no more.”

The DNC's and DLC’s swing-state strategy intentionally writes off the "red" states, sabotaging the efforts of struggling Democrats to rebuild their parties in those states, but it also takes "blue" states for granted. Meanwhile the constant assault of the pro-Republican media slowly erodes Democratic support, and “blue” states become battlegrounds. In a way, Zell Miller is right. The Democratic Party is a national party no more, all thanks to the brilliant “triangulation,” dubbed “strangulation” by the Democratic base, strategy of the Clintonistas, like Terry “McAwful” and his merry band of Republican-lite Democrats.

Contrary to Mr. Hamblen’s and the DLC’s view, Howard Dean advocated a 50 state strategy and reaching out to “red” state voters by courageously revealing the “robber baronism” of Republican economic policies and the immorality and hypocrisy of George Bush, who sent American soldiers to die in a war against a country, who did not attack us, while letting Osama bin Laden run free.

Howard Dean’s PAC, Democracy for America, has started filling in the vacuum caused by the DNC’s and DLC’s abandonment of the “red” states. Thanks to Howard Dean, Democrats in Texas have new hope. While DFA in Texas couldn’t get Richard Morrison over Rep. Tom DeLay, they did force Delay to actually campaign in his own district, and they came closer than any Democrat beforehand to unseating morally challenged Rep. Tom Delay.

The future of the Democratic Party lies in Howard Dean’s Democracy for America, which is working to rebuild the Democratic Party from the grassroots upwards.

The LTTE writer I was responding to also made a snide remark about Dean, so I was inspired to respond to that turkey.

http://www.democracyforamerica.com/

....

• Democracy for America contributed more than $600,000 to 634 candidates for non-federal office. 319 of those candidates won--a 50% win-loss record.

• "Dean Dozen" candidates were elected to state legislatures in 16 states. Candidates for legislature who received Democracy for America contributions, but were not part of the "Dean Dozen," were elected in an additional 12 states.

• Democracy for America played a large role in regaining several legislative chambers for the Democrats, including: the Colorado House and Senate, the North Carolina House, the Oregon Senate, the Vermont House and the Washington Senate. DFA also helped secure a tie in the Iowa Senate.

We made a lot of progress taking our county back---we need to expand on that success.

Love that DFA actually helped take some state offices in Red states.

Thus the cycle starts anew. Remember, look around. Take power locally. School board, water district, city council, etc. A national organization is only as strong as it's local power base. Now RSVP to Dec 1 Meetup while you're at it.

the idea was a very good one, I had no idea it would work so well so fast.

It's incredible.

P.S. Note the wildly leftist, liberal crazy college kids in the background! harhar

79. The way they have labelled us amuses me...it is unbelievable.
They are actually solemn looking, aren't they?

It was a solemn occasion. The last house party I attended was
at the Heath's house in Boulder. They opened their home to everyone who wanted to show up, basically.

I don't think there was anyone there under 30, and most were over 40 and well beyond. We weren't a solemn bunch, however. We were, in fact, a little LOUD.
