MLK Organizer in Iowa DID Know Dean was coming..
So says the DM register..

Cut N' Patse for your enjoyment..

"Organizer Kimberly Baxter, administrator of the state's Commission on the Status of African-Americans, said Dean had alerted her that he planned to attend.

Baxter said her only concern was making sure there was enough room for Des Moines-area residents who wanted to attend the ceremony."

Linked for your pleasure *grin*

So.. can we stop with the Dean bashing?

Dean told them.. lots of reporters came, it disrupted the event, Dean left.

Dean gets testy at the media for disruption, media writes bad story on Dean as result..

Remember: Always do your research!

Some posters have a hatred of Dr. Dean that borders on a psychological pathology.

3. So I guess we should all smile and be happy when the world is a mess...
Didn't we try the "less emotion" approach when Gore ran for President?

9. Maybe it's about time that Democrats realized...
...that not only did Bush and the GOP lie to get us into a war, and to buy tax cuts, but they've been lying about the "liberal media" as well. The media is NOT our friend. Why check ones emotion when dealing with slavering hyenas and cockroaches? It's not as if playing nicey-nice has gotten us anything other than three years of Bushit.

13. Sure, like
Shrub's smart-aleck "That's a trick question." At least Dean answers a reporter's question. But then, he has an answer--Shrub doesn't.

17. he should have know better!
it's pretty apparent that the rest of the field was sensitive enough to the nature of the ceremony that they didn't want to disturb it with the hordes of press. evidently dean didn't or else, didn't care. if he's mad at anyone it should be himself for yet another colossal misstep.

7. I agree that Gov Dean
is being hammered a bit unnecessarily on this "issue." It's clear that it was the press disrupting the event, not Gov Dean. At the same time, since it is caucus day and the media is in a frenzy, perhaps their misbehavior is to be expected. I'm not criticizing Gov Dean but if he wanted to honor Dr. King, then not alerting the media to his present at the event might have been wise.

But, they would have no doubt followed him anyway. No way to hide in Iowa today!

10. Nice work
And a nice "summing it all up" also. Usually (but not always) it's better to not get testy with the Press, sometimes it humanly can't be helped, and other times you just have to put them in their place and accept the consequences.

Many people here seem to need to "hate Dean". I'd have thought we would leave that kind of venom up to the bush lovers.

Their sole purpose in even being on DU seems to be to troll for the most outrageous half-truths about Dr. Dean that they can find and then hurry here to GD-P2004 and paste them into a thread.

It makes me sick, to tell you the truth! :puke:

15. This article gave me the biggest belly laugh so far today.
It took Dean about five minutes to find an unlocked door at the Historical Building — the front door.

21. But don't these paragraphs speak volumes: ( from article)
Presidential candidate Howard Dean's attempt Monday to attend a ceremony honoring the late civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. left many in the audience unhappy and complaining that the former Vermont governor was trying to overshadow the event.

The Iowa Commission on the Status of African-Americans hosted the 15th annual event, held at the Iowa Historical Building in Des Moines.

"That's not for him," said Seville Lee, 26 of Des Moines. "This was nothing but a conniving way for him to sneak in and take up a vote from the African-American community."

snip/

When a Dean aide announced that the former Vermont governor was leaving, the audience applauded.

**************************
At any rate, his appearance there cost him a lot of black support, and that will reverberate nationwide. A stupid move for Dean

36. Yeah..
just like when I said some of the "Democrats" who post here need to stop knocking every canidate they don't like.

I'm not surprised at your spin.

And her reaction was an honest one.. she didn't know Dean told them she was coming, she just saw a MLK day event disrupted. *shrug*

I'm sorry she was bothered, but that doesn't mean the TRUTH is what she SEES it as.. a lesson some people around here could learn!
