on edit: I mean the supposed swing away from Dean? And I don't mean this to be offensive to supporters of other candidates. I just find the swing away from Dean odd.

They would know if long-time republican stalwarts really wanted to change parties.
The only places you might have trouble are student areas and apartment areas.
From 20+ years in IA - I found the IA democratic party very well organized. If they think they might have ringers, I'm sure they have safeguards and procedures in place.
