Colombian official: Rebels plotted to kill Bush
FARC leaders allegedly ordered assassination during Argentina visit
Reuters Nov. 27, 2004
BOGOTA, Colombia - President Bush was targeted for assassination by Colombia’s biggest Marxist rebel group this week when he visited the Caribbean port city of Cartagena, a top Colombian official said on Saturday.
"According to informants and various sources, we had information indicating that various members of the FARC had been instructed by their leaders to make an attempt against President Bush,” Defense Secretary Jorge Alberto Uribe told reporters.

The White House had no immediate comment.

1. Well, glad they weren't successful
Heck, just the video of George singlehandedly fighting off a group of assassins would push me right over the fucking edge.

5. Ah, what lovely sucking up!
It's a twofer! Make a shocking accusation against your enemy (which no one will be able to prove or disprove), claiming a plot against your dear ally, and said ally will be all the more persuaded to send more money and troops your way to protect your interests.

It's all so transparent...

9. I find this report very suspect...
...Let me get this straight: The "17,000" strong Marxist army in Columbia tried to assasinate Bush? Which of course would have had the effect of outraging the American peope, which would result in giving the United States government a mandate to invade Columbia in revenge, and finally wipe out the Marxist. And this is what the Marxist wanted to bring down on themselves? I would seriously doubt that they have been surviving this long in Columbia by being a bunch of dumbasses.

10. Yeah, sure smells like b.s. to me.
The Uribe administration (and is that Uribe defense minister guy a relative of the Colombian prez, I wonder?) is sucking up for more "Plan Colombia" money and U.S. troops (to protect the oil pipelines).

14. Lordy Lordy, our hero Jesus Bush is so tough and strong, he can fight
off anyone trying to harm him or our country. I don't know why he needs the secret service because he is SOOOOO brave and such a great hero because he is a war time pResident and you know what hard work that is.

18. Someone should give the MSNBC folks a geography lesson...
Argentina is at the southern end of South America, nowhere near Colombia. At least they didn't mention Argentina in the article, just the headline. What a bunch of idiots.
