George W. Bush, "Self-appointed Emperor of the World"...the statue falls

Demonstrators greet Bush in Canada
"He's arrogant and ignorant. We totally disdain his policies on the war and his treatment of the U.N."

2. It's Playtime!! Let's go kids!!
..and this piece of agitprop came from michaelmoore.com...

Yes, well..... Mr Moore and his bigotry and paranoia encapsulate the main problem.

Michael Moore and those like him are the latter day Joseph McCarthys.

Poor old dead Joe; he just over-estimated the red peril - and is a caricature and laughingstock as a result. Isn't Mr Moore due for re-appraisal? He, like Senator McCarthy has/had a paranoid fear and hatred of his own demons. Problem is, Mike's hatred and paranoia characterised our opposition and delivered us a humiliating defeat - perhaps the fatal body blow to global old left ideals.

Is there a third way waiting in the wings?

9. Kia Ora
..what a welcome greeting. Thank you for that.
No, contrary to the opinions of another poster, I'm not in the wrong place...but found Michael Moore's domination of the news (here anyway) distasteful and distorting.
Mike Moore = Senator MacCarthy? Yes I think so, and feel that his brand of hysterical loathing does us harm.
As a sceptic, cynic and optimist I envisage an opposition that can rise above Michael Moore's ranting.
Face it, his attempts to aid John Kerry were disastrous.
Want him around next time?

10. Thanks For Clearing Up As To Why Kerry Lost
I had no idea it was all Michael Moore's doing.

Here I was thinking that the Karl Rove machine of dirty politics, the media, swift boat ads, gay marriage, abortion, the Christian conservative right-wingers, and a whole lot of dummies voting against their interests had something to do with our loss.

Good grief the man just had this "public domain" picture posted on his website.

11. With friends like these...
....who needs enemies anyway?
No of course - it wasn't altogether Mr Moore's fault - although as I say his McCarthyite hysteria must have turned many people away from Kerry.
So too of course did the tireless efforts and fraternal cooperation of the wonderful Messrs Nader and Soros.
And hey, blaming "the media" is a bit strained. Do you include Dan Rather in that?

19. Dan Rather??
are you talking about his "blip" re: Bush's AWOL status? Or when he cried on Letterman praising Bush as "his president" - Rather was all over the place when it came to Bush.

Blip or not, anyone with a brain knows that Bush was AWOL. Only rabid right-wingers went looney toons over Rather.

And, before you go, here's a clue: this picture (like the news footage of your boy reading the Pet Goat) was not manufactured by the bad, bad, bad Michael Moore. This is from the news, buddy - it actually did happen - in Canada. Care to take on the bad, bad, bad Canadians who refuse to worship the naked emperor? Kinda like Poland, I just forgot.
P.S. Mc Carthy should be good - cuz Ann the man sez so. They'll straighten you up when you reach your home.

13. and Good Morning to you too...
..thanks for your comments...although I'm not going anywhere. Just interested in why and how Kerry lost in such a spectacular fashion.
The point I'm trying to make is that we liberals (and I use the word very carefully) need to look at some sacred cows.
A nearby politician (Mike Rann; State Premier of South Australia) is a New Zealand born Labour (ie, Democrat) politician.
He enjoys unprecedented popularity, has pulled his party from years of opposition, cut taxes, boosted the economy etc etc.
Blair in Britain has done the same.
Both are self-described "socialists".
A message there somewhere?

17. Three percent against a sitting "war President"
who did all he could do, with the help of the evil fat ass Cheney, to scare the shit out of the voters.
Tell me again why that is a "spectacular fashion."

You:
"Just interested in why and how Kerry lost in such a spectacular fashion."

Kerry had an uphill battle from 9/11/01 to election day. Or have you forgotten what a joke Bush was pre 9/11?

So get off that Republican high horse. I'm not calling you a republican but you are sounding like one. You know the drill: Liberals need to bla bla bla.....Democrats need to bla bla bla. As if repugs give a fuck about us.

16. well i jsut did.
and it still sounds like the usual freeper diatribe.

personally, having read moore's books, and seen more of his movies, i have to give the man props. he's one of the few that can really air the dirty laundry of politics, and do it in a way that is both humorous and thought-provoking.

if you find it to be soemthing other than that i really don't know what to tell you.

i certianly wouldn't call it paranoia. that's art bell territory.
