Does it matter that he's Canadian when you talk about donations?

I ask because I was looking around Newsmeat a while ago, and I'm rechecking right now, and Charlize Theron is listed as donating $2,000 to Barbara Boxer. She is't an American citizen, as far as I know. Another example is Nicole Kidman who is apparently a very good supporter of Democrats. She's Australian right? And finally, the very British Ozzy Osbourne, who donated to Hillary.

Obviously, all these people can't vote if they aren't citizens, but are they allowed to make donations? This has been bugging me for a little while so I'll appreciate any information.

if he were still a canadian citizen and just a US permanent resident he would not be permitted to donate money to a political organization.

They don't realize that the personal politics of individual journalists don't really matter. All that matters are the politics of the people who fund and produce the news.
