Wow -- George Will Opposes GOP Attempts to Kill the Fillibuster
I have got to hand to him on this one. Even though Will supports Bush's right-wing jidicial nomiees, he's put common sense over partisanship in this case:
The filibuster is an important defense of minority rights, enabling democratic government to measure and respect not merely numbers but also intensity in public controversies. Filibusters enable intense minorities to slow the governmental juggernaut. Conservatives, who do not think government is sufficiently inhibited, should cherish this blocking mechanism. And someone should puncture Republicans' current triumphalism by reminding them that someday they will again be in the minority.

1. At least he's got integrity
which is more than you can say for the rest of the political opportunists that make up the Republican party.

Still though...i'm unnerved by the fact of intelligent people using their intelligence to preserve inequality, privilige for a few, and the status quo...

i thought the creative people were supposed to be pushing the boundaries all the time?

2. Line-item veto
I heard Shrub arguing in favor of the "line item veto" the other day.

3. Didn't the Line-Item Veto Become Law
at least as applied to spending measures? Or was it passed and ruled unconstitutional?

5. Unconstitutional
Violates the separation of powers. I wish I could remember the case name, but it's been a couple years since Constitutional Law and I've had so much Law since then.

7. Clinton was in favor of it too
Congress gave it to him but it was ruled unconstitutional. Some states' governors (including Pennsylvania) currently have this power.

4. Because He is a true conservative. They have
trouble with a lot of this stuff too. A lot of them don't like the Patriot Bill.

9. George Will is looking more like an old Goldwater conservative,
most closely approximated by the libertarians today. In total agreement on this issue.
