I just watched last nights "Daily Show" on the 7 pm repeat. |
|
Was Hitchens drunk? What was in the cup. At times I thought he was drunk, at times not.

1. If I were a betting man... |

I'd bet he was sauced. And moreso than usual.

2. I think his brain is nowadays in an in and out mode. Like a radio station |
|
that keeps tuning in and out. I almost didn't recognized him shaved.

I saw all the threads last eve about his presumed inebriated state.
I just watched the rerun with my son. I had forwarned him that Hitchens might be loaded. Neither he or I, who lived in England for a very long time, thought he was loaded. That's just his manner. Don't flame me please. It's not as though I'm a huge fan of his or anything. I really don't care about him at all. But after what I had read last night, I prepared my son for the worst. IMHO It was really classically Hitchens, and quite normal in a certain sense of a certain sort of Brit speak.
I however didn't think that he presented accurately what was going on in Iraq. I really don't think that was due to booze. He was just clueless.
This week in God and the Ridge segment made the whole thing worthwhile anyway.

9. I honestly could not tell. Hitch is an alcoholic enigma. |
|
He reminds me somewhat of his pal's (Martin Amis) dad, Kingsley. That is, if Hitch and Martin are still pals after Hitch's dissing of Saul Bellow. Kingsley Amis was a notorious lecher and phenomenal drunk (Nil mortuiis dire nisi bonum, not withstanding). No where was his ability to drink and hide it (for a short while, anyway) more apparent than in Kingsley's One Fat Englishman. One Fat Englishman reminds me of Peter Benchley's Rummies. However, Kingsley Amis is much funnier than the droll author of Jaws.
