Frist defends Santorum in Letter to Editor Pittsburgh Post Gazette
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/04337/420306.stm

Santorum is fulfilling his roles as a father and a leader
I understand some have recently questioned the residency of my colleague Sen. Rick Santorum. I believe this to be both unjust and unfair.

Serving in the U.S. Senate is a high honor. I know that Sen. Santorum feels that way about representing the more than 12 million people of Pennsylvania. When he is not working in Washington, he visits each of the commonwealth's 67 counties annually -- a pledge he has fulfilled every year since being elected to the U.S. Senate.

But Sen. Santorum also has a responsibility to his family as a father and a husband. It is wrong to suggest that in order to fulfill that responsibility as a senator you should have to abandon your duties as a parent. Sen. Santorum has done an excellent job of balancing both his work and his family. I know Rick works very hard as both a leader in the Senate and the father of six young children.

Most members who serve in the Senate have to maintain two homes -- one in their state and one in Washington, D.C. With the workload of the Senate and the demands on an individual senator's time, there simply is no other choice. Having your family close while in D.C. allows senators to be both full-time parents and full participants in the Senate's daily legislative work, including hearings, meeting with colleagues and constituents as well as floor debates and votes. But all of us consider our state residence our home.

Sen. Santorum is a public servant. He represents the people of Pennsylvania and does it well. Sen. Santorum moved his family closer to his work in Washington, D.C., because he wanted to be a father for his children as well as a leader for Pennsylvania.

WILLIAM H. FRIST, M.D.
Majority Leader
U.S. Senate
Washington, D.C.

There are 5 other letters blasting Santorum including one from a family of 4 Republicans.

2. Thick as thieves.
We have to point out that these crooks in congress (has a ring to it) are thick as thieves. They will protect one another. And me mam always said, "el que anda on la mierda, un poco se le pega."

Who who hangs around shit, eventually begins to smell like it.

Not a direct translation, but close enough.
