Where the hell is the opposition? Why the shameful silence?
Iraq seems to have been forgotten. Amazing. The carnage continues and the deaths go on, and Bush has won the day. The illusion continues that all is well, and Iraq is on the way to democracy. What crap.

But where are the voices that just a while ago protested this horrendous war? The media barely reports the deaths. The totals are NEVER given. The slaughter of civilians in Fallujah was another ho hum moment in a never ending war that has gone pffft.

If you missed this, read it now. Then think:

The article Challenges the SILENCE...

"Has the opposition been permanently muted? Do we just sit back and watch the endless war go on? Do we pretend it is no longer our concern? Do we become one with the warmongers? Do we watch in silence as Death rides unfettered through the streets of Iraq?

Or do we start asking the questions that no one has answered?"

1. The short answer is....

I think that people are at a loss as to what exactly they should do.

That's not exactly the same thing as resignation. However, since Democratic politicians... in general... continue to aid and abet, most antiwarriors have ( maybe logically) concluded that the political process is not going to end this catastrophe.

Personally, I don't get why there isn't more interest in alternatives, esp. consumer boycott of war-related, and Bush-related
industries. There is SOME, but it's disorganized and limited to a "fringe", statistically, and therefore not likely to have much impact, at least in the short term.

2. Oh, please.
In case you haven't noticed, we're now a Nazi Nation.

The Media means nothing. The People mean nothing.

The People marched in the millions before the war and The Media didn't notice.

If it's not on TV, it means nothing. Nashing of teeth only leads to bad teeth. NO ONE is listening.

Shop at Wal-Mart, Citizen. All is well.......

7. I totally agree....so......
As the article asks.....do we just sit back and say that's the way it goes? Do we acquiesce to this horror and accept it? That's as bad as being on of 'them. There are millions of us who have joined MoveOn.org, or who contributed to the campaign through other organizations. We have to bombard them with the need to be heard.

I just read where MoveOn is considering its 'agenda for the future,' - and was floored. There is an agenda for the present...that includes protecting women's rights, health care and a dozen domestic issues that must be brought to the attention of the public. But the war goes on... today there were more military deaths - reported as if it were the weather report....slipped in between the Giombi crap and Walmart news.

We CANNOT just sit back.

5. Everytime I turn on the TV I hear Democrats moaning about Iraq.
Begala was mouthing off on Imus a few days ago, last time I turned the TV on.

The problem is our Senate members and especially the leaders supported the invasion. Edwards ,Clinton ,Schumer, etc.

Im more worried about Patriot Act expansions which our party seems to gladly support. And is silent on.

6. The fairy tale.
Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 06:06 AM by Disturbed
Most people believe the fairy tale that the Iraqi elections willl bring democracy to Iraq. The mood is now wait and see if this occurs. Now the party line is that the war was for this purpose. The WMDs lie has gone down the memory hole. "Freedom is on the march." If there is protest in Amerika, the Freedom Troops will march over you.
