And if its not to much to ask, could yu keep it kicked for me? I'm off to other liberal message boards to post it there.
I personally don't know what to think about this. It's just a good thing to think about, even if you disagree.

12. Snip
<snip>
n January 4, 1947, 130 men and women met at Washington's Willard Hotel to save American liberalism. A few months earlier, in articles in The New Republic and elsewhere, the columnists Joseph and Stewart Alsop had warned that "the liberal movement is now engaged in sowing the seeds of its own destruction." Liberals, they argued, "consistently avoided the great political reality of the present: the Soviet challenge to the West." Unless that changed, "In the spasm of terror which will seize this country ... it is the right--the very extreme right--which is most likely to gain victory."
</snip>

<snip>
Today, three years after September 11 brought the United States face-to-face with a new totalitarian threat, liberalism has still not "been fundamentally reshaped" by the experience. On the right, a "historical re-education" has indeed occurred--replacing the isolationism of the Gingrich Congress with George W. Bush and Dick Cheney's near-theological faith in the transformative capacity of U.S. military might. But American liberalism, as defined by its activist organizations, remains largely what it was in the 1990s--a collection of domestic interests and concerns. On health care, gay rights, and the environment, there is a positive vision, articulated with passion. But there is little liberal passion to win the struggle against Al Qaeda--even though totalitarian Islam has killed thousands of Americans and aims to kill millions; and even though, if it gained power, its efforts to force every aspect of life into conformity with a barbaric interpretation of Islam would reign terror upon women, religious minorities, and anyone in the Muslim world with a thirst for modernity or freedom.
</snip>

I've never bothering registering with TNR, since I think they are largely full of sh*t. This will come in handy.

20. Sounds like a PNAC justification
Interesting, but I disagree with his premise. Moveon and Michael Moore are not the problem. But it does point out the lack of vision in the Party leadership. One must consider the goal and how to acheive it. Can the mess we've created in Iraq possibly say that the neocon agenda of using our might to stamp out the "Islamic threat" was the right course? That domination is the only way to solve problems? I don't have time to respond fullt tonight, but hope this discussion will be going tomorrow.

21. If you "don't know what to think about this", why are you busy
spreading it around?

But I'll be happy to tell you what I think about it -- it's CRAP.

The Ruling Class will always need an external bogeyman to keep the masses in line. This article's constant hearkening back to communism is a perfect example.

The biggest threat that communism ever represented was to the rapacious capitalism of the Ruling Class. That "liberals" were finally brought on board as anti-communists was NOT a victory for the common man and the grassroots, it was SOLELY a victory for the Ruling Class.

Same with "The War on Terrorism". Endless "war" is the perfect mechanism for social and economic control for the benefit of the Ruling Class. There's a damn good reason that REAL liberals deeply distrust it, and refuse to lend support to the Ruling Class project of corporate/military imperialism.

TNR is nothing but a rag for Ruling Class apologists. They can take their advice and stick it where the sun don't shine.
