1. Darn it, why can't the south be know for good things?
The south is not bad...per say, it just seems there are a lot of misquided notions. I love living in the south. If only we could turn a little more liberal.

5. Bad Dilema You've Got There
I don't think I could hack it. I know quite a few liberals behind the red state line. All of them are doing what they can to liberalize the region. Unfortunately, change has been painfully slow in coming and seems on many fronts to be backsliding. Just so you know, you've got a home in upstate New York if you ever need out.

9. It amazes some people that I'm from here
I had dinner with some acquaintences earlier this weeks and they actually asked me how I came to have such different opinions than everyone else. I have actually never been out of the south. I'm going to have to do that someday.

2. I protest on behalf of Robert E. Lee...
Your work is lovely but Lee was no George Bush. He admitted mistakes, for one thing--"it is all my fault" he said after Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg. He understood both the attraction and the horror of war--"it is well that war is so terrible or we should grow too fond of it", he said at Fredricksburg. John Bell Hood, I think, would have been a better model for you.

3. My Appologies to the General
Good points. Didn't mean disrespect to the Gerneral who by all accounts is was an honorable man. Just the most recognizable I could come up with...

4. Well, since no president has won in modern history . . .

6. There does appear to be a difference...
The 22% of the electorate who said they voted based on "moral values" issues over all others came in very large numbers out of the southern bible belt. Its not the states per se that is different. Its who in the states are voting and why.

7. 40% said they voted on "moral values" in 1996.
Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 10:11 PM by QC
Clinton won that year.

The moral values mandate business and the red state/blue state thing are both simplistic media creations that exaggerate Republican strength and Democratic weakness. I wish there weren't so many people on our side so eager to swallow them.

12. Lee was never...
The General was never called a douchbag in public. With Bush the term is nearly inescapable. Again, no offense fot Lee, chimps, retarded monkies, jackasses or for that matter douchebags that I have compared him to over the years. Just convenient visual symbols.
