Or does he just want to retire? Someone needs to start a draft gephardt movement against Kit Bond

I don't think there's any reason why he'd want to enter a prolonged race with an incumbent, esepcally after being defeated in Iowa, which was once considered to be his home territory. He'll go the way of other Democratic leaders, retiring to write a book or maybe becoming Secretary of Labor in another Democratic Administration.
On a side note, are you from UCSB? Do you attended the UCSB Campus Dems meetings?

2. Agreed. Any Missouri DUers out there -- |
|
-- who could fill us in? Do the Democrats already have a candidate against Bond?
Gephardt would be very good against Bond.

8. I've always hoped Gephardt would run against Bond |
|
if he dropped out of the race in time. Yes, there is a candidate - a lady - from State Govt (Farmer, I believe), but I honestly believe Gephardt might be the only candidate who could beat Bond and he certainly needs to be beaten. I wasn't supportive of Gephardt in the primaries and I've always hoped if he didn't do well right away in the primaries that he would run for the Senate. This has just been my hope - no inside info.

he doesn't know how to win, either congressional elections or any other kind of election. the dems will be better off with him gone.

and he lost ALOT of seats for us as minority leader. That doesn't mean he shouldn't try and win Missouri statewide
