How is Eliot Spitzer surviving?
I saw him on NOW on Friday night. All I could wonder is why has he NOT seen the same fate as Wellstone? He is pissing off many important people.

1. Spitzer is one of the few remaining public "servents" with integrity . . .
every time he speaks up, he embarrasses the hell out of every other public official, who all know they should be doing the same . . . but their corporate sponsors won't let them . . . so they'd just as soon Spitzer shut up . . . don't count on it . . .

6. too bad it'll never happen
He's from the Northeast. We're evil, remember? We have to run a guy who sounds like a Cletus the slack-jawed yokel.

3. There's a big hint in the Jim Cramer interview
He said that in public and in groups of other investment people, Spitzer's reviled, but in private, those same people are happy for what he's doing. Far be it from me to chirp merrily about the joys of the free market and its inherent moral buoyancy, but it's in play here: business abhors uncertainty, and the periodic implosions caused by thieving, unregulated corporateers messes up everyone's day. Sure, a bit of filching and insider manipulation's to be expected, but rampant megagreed messes up everyone's day.

He's not safe, but many in the investment world appreciate what he's doing, and those hurt by him are probably too interested in making sure their nest is properly feathered and their parachute sufficiently burnished to go on a revenge bender. The system is rotten, but it's based on some sound principles, and we shall see.

5. I'm inclined to agree, but...
If this were the case, corporate money would have split better for Kerry in the last election, which it certainly didn't.

Bush is exactly the thieving, unregulating corporate whore that breaks the system, and these people support him.

The corporate moneymen are voting for rampant megagreed with dollars.

4. he'll be the next governor of New York
and is on the rise in the party. Whether or not the corporate criminals like him, he is good for American business and the economy. And I imagine--here I'm guessing since I don't like in NY--that ordinary New Yorkers like that he isn't afraid to stand up to Wall Street.

7. I think most ordinary New Yorkers don't know much about him
Unless they are following the financial news, they probably have no idea what he's done.

Giuliani made his name busting mobsters in NY. Spitzer will have to get the attention of the NY Daily News readers if he wants to win.

And believe me, I will be his number one volunteer. I think he's fantastic.

8. Looks like he's getting the attention of the NY Post readers
An exercise junkie who eats healthy and dotes on his kids, Spitzer is still the mild-mannered comic-book character. Spitzer's long campaign against fraud on Wall Street, in which he is seen as an Eliot Ness figure - upstanding, straight-laced and maybe a little dull - only cemented that goody-two-shoes image.

But now that he's got his eyes on the governor's office - with an announcement expected this week - and more voters have their eye on him, Spitzer is trying to show off his looser side.

His charisma was on full display Thursday as he wound his way through the blue-haired ladies and diehard Democrats at a local political meeting held in the dingy basement of a Forest Hills apartment building.

With laundry tumbling noisily in the background, the New York attorney general took on some tough questions about his policy, but he also drew grins. After one older woman gushed that the lean, athletic Spitzer was handsome, he quickly replied that his wife, Silda, "thought it was a joke" when New York magazine named him one of the city's sexiest people.

9. oops
I meant to say that I don't "live in NY" not that I don't "like" NY. I actually love NY.
Such is the danger of posting late at night.
