http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20041203/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/thompson_letter_text_1

I mean, I took an elective class in food safety my senior year in college 12 years ago, and as lame as it was we learned all about the weaknesses in the food "safety" system. Basically 25% of the US economy is related to food. Is it a big surprise that is where "they" would hit us?

So now everybody is "surprised" Tommy admitted it? Well, GOLLY!! He only had such a stellar record on protecting Flu Vaccine shortages....or...maybe not.

Nevermind...I guess.

5. I work in ag research
Homeland security warned us a couple years ago that al Queda was intent on disrupting the food supply by introducing exotic diseases and pests. This was according to documents supposedly found in Afghanistan. There have been several seizures of infected plant materials destined for the US since then. Right now there is a aphid that somehow made it way to the heartland that carries a virus that is playing havoc with soybeans. No one knows where it came from. In two years it has spread to several states. Mainstream media doesn't report this due to the panic that might result.
Thompson said nothing new.

7. I guess that's what I'm saying
It's nothing new.

Last holiday I drove to my aunt's house in the "Breadbasket of America" (Iowa) and basically it's a bunch of corn fields and chemical (Monsanto) tanks. And the occasional dirt airplane runway.

8. Tommy is right, after four years of Bush gutting and neutering the USDA
FDA we are all at risk. I am more concerned about contamination of food by corporate assholes than terrorists.

9. I think these crazy neocon terrorists are a far bigger threat to us
than any foreign terrorists. They'd nuke their own mother if they could make a buck doing it. :nuke:
