Bush Downplays Thompson's Terror Worries
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush played down on Saturday a stark warning from his resigning health chief that the nation's food supply is largely unprotected from terror attack.

Bush said that the government is doing what it can to safeguard the public from threats, but much work remains.

"We're a large country, with all kinds of avenues where somebody could inflict harm," said Bush, asked about the issue after an Oval Office meeting with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf. "We've made a lot of progress in protecting our country, and there's more work to be done, and this administration is committed to doing it."

Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson said in a speech Friday announcing his coming departure from the Bush Cabinet that he worries "every single night" about a possible terror attack on the food supply.

1. Election's over
and somebody forgot to turn Tommy's alert blurb off.

This Administration should be committed ;) but it's not doing much about real, tangible ways of securing things that need to be, it seems. Maybe it has good reasons not to worry?

Bin Laden was an operative, and may still be, so you don't really have to catch him. In fact, he may be "retired" someday and get some perks.

The contrived "International war on terror" has been beddy, beddy good for *. Why spoil a good thing? Keep it on hold, keep the fear message implanted, and use terror as needed. Rinse, repeat. Hitler wrote the book on it.

There is a financial motivation not to overdue real events. It is disruptive to an already fragile economy, as I have said before.

3. What are they talking about?
Mercury, lead, arsenic, PCB's, perchlorate. Bush is already attacking it. Thompson wasn't paying attention.
