Why are people claiming democracy is dead? |
|
Jesus, Dean came in third, behind two well respected men. People are acting like the democratic party is going to implode because Dean didn't win or at least come in second. He's not the saviour of our party, none of them are. It's politics as usual whether Kerry, Edwards or Dean wins the nomination.
I just don't understand how people think that just because HD is vocal about bush (many many people are) and is against the war in Iraq that he is somehow head and shoulders driving the party in a new direction. He's not. I dont think any of them are really. It takes a certain kind of politicking to get into the white house. A kind that inevitably follows the rule of "politics as usual" eventually. Small things change and tilt the democratic way, making our lives easier and more copacetic but ther won't be a paradigm shift.
For the very liberal, he's not more liberal than Kerry or Kucinich consitantly. He doesn't run a more upbeat campaign than CMB or Edwards does.
They are all good democrats and I will vote for the nominee without any holding of my nose, but seriously we need to drop the illusions that there is a saviour for our party...especially when they are as polarizing as someone like HD

For some, people's rule means rule by people who agree with them, and if the people do not agree, then clearly, the people do not rule....
