1. That's a little bit of an incorrect analogy. |
|
The occupation and reconstruction of Japan lasted until 1952, so we were involved with them in war and peace for about ten years. So, we're not really there yet.
Things like our Iraq operation are rarely easy, though. The US took over the Philippenes from Spain in 1898 and we were still suppressing rebellions there until 1902.
Like I've been trying to say, Bush should have seen this quagmire coming from a mile away. Or maybe he did, and just didn't think it was important?

fact we never actually invaded Japan.....
We had to island hop our way and then, overnight, became an occupying force...
The point I was trying to make is that GWB never took a realistic look at the situation. If he would have spoken the truth about the difficulties that we would face, (then of course the public wouldn't have been behind him) he might have been able to marshal, no pun intended, a much larger invasion force and been able to quell the opposition much faster and more effectively....
There was also no insurgency in Japan since we totally vanquished the military imperialism. Not so in Iraq. All we did was create more trouble......
So my analogy is fine...
With good planning and sufficient troops, we fought back three dictators, reconstructed half the world and had to deal with the Russians and Red Chinese, using your time frame, while we were at it....
How long will it take to quell the beast we unleashed in Iraq?

3. I always get stirred inside when I think of that date |
|
A speech turned our nation's darkest hour to its finest when Roosevelt gave his stirring, memorable, patriotic speech. It began:
"Yesterday, December 7, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy - the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.
The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its Government and its Emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific. Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in Oahu, the Japanese Ambassador to the United States and his colleague delivered to the Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. While this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or armed attack."
And I contrast that to the sorry excuse of a man we were stuck with on September 11, 2001. Running like a scared rabbit after sitting shell shocked and looking for all the world like the frightened small child he is, reading a kiddie book.
12.7.41: we were led by a Democrat.
9.11.01: We were living under the cloud of a sorry, rich, entitled, chickenhawk republican
What a sad world we have today.

7. Wow, what a different era that was! FDR was fantastic |

during those difficult times and he stepped up to the plate with much bravery. I get stirred up too thinking that this day many years ago changed the lives and nation as we know it now--

5. We were scared then but made it through..........today were scared...... |
|
because there seems to be no coherent plan to deal with terrorists, OBL is still on the loose and we attacked a country that was contained with sanctions. We need a Democrat that can work with other countries not make us the laughing stock of the world.
I still will not buy major items from Japan, especially cars produced by those whose industry made the 12/7/41 attack possible.

While we are getting sucked more and more into the mess as our leader thinks swaggering around in a general's jacket is how to win the war....
