How to talk to a right-wing fundamentalist |
|
Edited on Tue Dec-07-04 01:37 AM by Clarkie1
First, ask if they believe the bible is the word of God.
They will say, "yes."
Next, pull out your portable bible and ask them what they think this means:
For why should my freedom be judged by another's conscience?
--PAUL 1 Corinthians 10:29

2. Remind them of the 10 Commandments. |
|
"Thou shalt not lie." "Thou shalt not steal."
If a president stole an election, it is a sin. To support that action is immoral. If there is strong evidence that fraud put Bush in office, you must take the moral action and speak out to oppose the theft of our democracy.
If Bush knew about the vote-rigging, then he is also a liar. Worse than Clinton. Worse than Nixon. Bush's election should be overturned, or he should be impeached.

3. I usually begin by asking them about |
|
selling my daughter into slavery, eating shellfish, and how I should go about 'smiting' my neighbor who works on the Sabbath.
They then usually spout something about that being the old testament, and that Jesus released us from those laws or some such thing.
I then ask them if the ten commandments are suspended, since they are old testament.
It is usually about this time they take a swing at me, or their heads explode.
heh
Seriously though I have never gotten past that point in a single conversation with them though.
They usually say they will pray for me and walk away.

if they swing and miss, try this one out on him/her: "He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who is quick-tempered exalts folly" 14:29.
Then run for your life. :D

Why try talking to a right-wing fundamentalist in the first place? The only people who can get through to my bible-quoting brother-in-law about ANY issue at ANY time are the leaders of his church. If it comes from them, it's the undisputed truth and anything I try to tell him is bullshit not matter how much sense it makes, who my source is, or what the relevance is.

8. I agree and I have always found that one must limit the conversation |
|
for the simple fact that they have a limited focus!

9. They also have limited factual knowledge. |
|
They just spew talking points and when confronted with evidence their position is factually inaccurate, the name calling begins.
"You are a lying socialist, commie, liberal."
"You hate America."
"Why don't you move to Canada."
