Paper Clip Card download here
Edited on Tue Dec-07-04 12:08 PM by Atman
Screw it. I had already created it, and it doesn't really matter whether or not there are URL's on it. Thanks to the poster that offered a couple, they were great. But, they were too long to expect anyone to actually type into the address bar. Tell people to Google Norway Paper Clip when they get home, or jot a couple of your favorite links on the back. Or, I allowed enough space along the bottom to add your own URL's using a small (8pt) font.

The card image below is for display here only. It is NOT properly sized and it is NOT hi enough resolution to print and still be legible. If you want to print them, go to the link provided below the image. That will take you to a 440k 300dpi file with crop marks, for a standard 3.5" x 2" business card, ready for "real" offset printing, or step-and-repeating onto a sheet of cards from your local office supply store (after removing the crop marks). It is saved in .jpg format, but with virtually no compression, so the image quality will not suffer.

IMPORTANT! DO NOT PRINT THE ABOVE SCREEN VERSION!

CLICK HERE then Right Click or Save To Disk hi res file entitled solidarity300dpi.jpg.

I'm glad so many of us thought this was a good idea, and I hope it didn't fall off the face of DU already because we don't really care, or that it was just something to talk about for a few days. I've spent a fair amount of time on this "campaign" so far, in addition to over three years fighting this bullshit regime, and if any of you have the means, I have a PayPal donation link on my site, linked below. I'm a starving artist, and a donation would be helpful, although certainly not required to use the Solidarity Card.

1. Love it! You are a hero

Atman!

You have worked so hard on this one and I love the way you did the clip in red white and blue!

Great idea because we could wear a red a white and a blue clip at the same time.

I also like the way that you worded the info on the card.

Do you have a way of spraying the pin r/w/b or can you start making the card with the the clips painted?

I just have to try to figure out how to make the business cards.

3. I'm not sure if there's business card printer card stock
Edited on Tue Dec-07-04 12:21 PM by eleny
But you could print them out on card stock paper and cut them out. If you start out with white clips, then it's easy to mask off the middle and just swipe the other colors onto the ends.

4. I have business card printer stock

I just haven't had time to try it.

I think the print would have to be smaller.

If someone can go to www.avery.com more technical minds can help us.

5. If you don't have access to Photoshop
Edited on Tue Dec-07-04 12:29 PM by Atman
or a similar program, you can download the file and print them individually onto 5x7 sheets of card stock...there are trim marks already on them, just cut them out. If you can get access to Photoshop, it is easy to duplicate the image and print out 10 to a page. I have a template for that, but not immediately accessible. Let me see how the response is. If there is enough demand, I can upload a 10-up sheet of cards you can print on a regular 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of heavy weight paper.

These are already exactly the size of a business card. No resizing or anything is needed.

Office supply stores sell pre-scored sheets of blank business cards, 10 to a sheet, with instructions on how to position the artwork in just about any word processor.

7. I'm a digital artist and prefer using PhotoImpact
But it's easy enough to design this in any art program and print. Nice to hear that there's Avery card stock in the business card dimensions.

What fonts did you use for the text?

8. Futura Book Condensed
Medium condensed for the bolder body text. Garmond bold (artificially compressed) for the left side headline. GoodDogCool for the Solidarity type.

9. Yours looks so special atman!

Let's keep this kicked so that others can add ideas for the printing of it.

I just discovered in my clip assortment box. red/white and blue/white clips.

They will look great during the holiday seasons if I wear them both.
They are also bigger than the regular size too.

16. Hey! :-)
I can use that to! Colors match.

Here's the Norwegian flag flying on 17th of May, our national celebration day.

A nice (and noisy) day where the marching bands and cheering children forms a parade up to the castle. Picture taken after the parade has broken up, when people usually go home to eat cake or go out partying.

Brilliant work this!

21. Correct, Bernie. So it is a fitting symbol of creeping Nazi-ism.
Scientists were "paperclipped" by the US government. We know. If you go back to the original thread about this, that was one of the very first posts. nearly 300 posts later, we're still on it. I don't think too many people are overly concerned, as the symbolism is strong either way. Thanks for your input, though. But the train has left the station.

And an evening KICK.

32. this is beautiful....
i will print and use them immediately...

on another note... i was wearing my paperclip at work and my boss asked me what it was about (she is a republican). When i explained it to her she got angry and told me that political demonstrations are not aloud on the job. This is a retail job. Does anyone know the legalities of this? Can she tell me i am not aloud to wear the paper clip? I am asking because my boss at my other job (a democrat) has no problem with me wearing the clip.

33. Ask if she has a yellow ribbon on
Or simply say you needed a paper clip handy to pick your teeth.

The fact that it upset her speaks volumes. Keep up the good fight!

In a related development, Mogster tells me he was going to drop a line to the Norwegian press about this. That would be some great international exposure for us, to help show others around the world that America isn't entirely made up of fundie morans.

---

"The larger the mob, the harder the test. In small areas, before small electorates, a first-rate man occasionally fights his way through, carrying even the mob with him by force of his personality. But when the field is nationwide, and the fight must be waged chiefly at second and third hand, and the force of personality cannot so readily make itself felt, then all the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre — the man who can most easily adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum.

The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."
