1. I'm choosing "Other" because I can't make sense out of Al From |
|
His recent statements are puzzling.

I disagree with the DLC and have no intention of supporting it, but "forcing them out of the party" or refering to them as Republicans is not a good idea considering that democrats need as broad of a base as possible. What we do NEED to do is weaken their influence since it is clear that their strategy hasn't been doing well as of late.

3. Perhaps we could distinguish between DLC members an DLC spokespeople |
|
I don't like the notion of shrinking the party either--which is why I am dismayed by some of the statements coming from DLC leaders. One way to weaken their influence would be to encourage DLC members who disagree with the provocative statements of the DLC leadership to either resign their membership or demand a change in leadership. Al From is emerging as a divisive, acrimonious figure who detracts from the cause of electing Democrats.

4. Right now they are a minority in the senate caucus |
|
Especially with the retirement of Zell Miller, John Edwards, and John Breaux. But their influence appears to be greater than their size. There's already talk of Evan Bayh being the nominee in 2008. Evan Bayh will be a disaster because he offers nothing even resembling a populist economic message. What the DLC doesn't seem to get is that the populist economic agenda is a WINNING agenda. Even when the GOP tried to spin Kerry's economic agenda way out of whack, polls still showed him beating Bush on economic issues. Moral issues are another thing to address, but the real problem with the DLC is their stances on economic issues.

6. On issues, you may have a point |
|
I will say that Evan Bayh appears to have the right temperment for the job. As far as I have observed, his disagreements with other Democrats have been civil, and he has not gone out of his way to court controversy.

10. Are the DLC "us" or "them"? |
|
Who are we? Who are they? That's the question.
My apologies if that seemed obtuse. It was meant to be simple.
