Hope they didn't have a gun rack in the vehicle.

I do like the comeback, though. But it is a little dangerous to egg on unstable people in traffic.

14. Hostile Rhetoric
I can understand the hostility you felt. It seems to me that even a muted affirmation of the sitting junta in the way of a small sticker is enough to piss me off these days.

Let's face it, this regime is openly hostile to many of the things us rational folks hold in esteem as representative of a better way of living. From sacrificing the environment for profit through selling out our kids future to waging war for political gain this regime is hellbent on being as hostile and hateful as possible. It is the one thing they excel at doing.

19. When did free speech become hostile retoric?
Someone could have a sticker that said my (real name) is a total idiot and that would be their free speech and I would respect their right to speak their mind and MoveOn.

Edited on Tue Dec-07-04 10:50 PM by Selatius
If I put a bunch of Kerry stickers on my windows, would you seriously argue that I'm being hostile in the opposite direction? Free speech can be a bitch, but the least you could have done was be CIVILIZED and not said anything at all. You can disagree, but screaming at people on the road isn't getting anyone anywhere.

21. I Can't Believe...
I can't believe you are trying to dictate how somebody feels.

The poster had EVERY right to feel offended and to get ANGRY about it.

It's called EMOTION. And it seems to be the ONLY form of communication that works in this country.

You need to back off. Not everybody can be as rational as you. :eyes:

Bravo to the original post, btw. I wouldn't have had the guts to do that!

33. I'm not dictating anything
I'm stating my opinion and trying to get the person to answer the main thrust of my post. My opinion was that it was stupid to have done that; it accomplished absolutely nothing constructive in my opinion.

It is one thing to sit down with somebody and hold a frank discussion about his or her political beliefs and then move on from there, but it's another to roll up to somebody on the road and say whatever before they or you drive off. That's not constructive at all, and it's just turning people off and making the country more polarized than what it necessarily has to be, especially when you simply fire a statement about them being pro-life until the day they're born, which is admittedly true for far too many folks, but I'd say that kind of delivery isn't going to win many converts.

All I seek in this country is a little reason. That's it. Is it too damn much to ask people to think? What, it's okay to ask a Repub to think, but it's not okay when I ask the same of someone here to think before doing something?

Blah, whatever. I'm not going to spend anymore time with this thread. I've gotten my point across. What you do with it is your free choice.

16. Bullshit Rationalization?
It is bullshit to even try to rationalize that sporting Kerry stickers on a car is analogous to sporting the odious one's style of bumper art. Kerry was leading to the light and the others are screeching of fear and loathing and pointing towards a sad ending.

Rage on, the times call for it.

Why don't you try sporting pro-choice and Kerry stickers in rural Mississippi and then try to find people who would seriously argue that you were being "hostile with rhetoric on their car" to justify crap on the road such as that? It's the same phenomenon, just in the opposite direction.

Without the freedom to offend, there is no such thing as the freedom of speech.

37. Freedom to offend?
I would move that calling someone out at a traffic light for their odious choices is something some here find offensive but it is just this kind of offensiveness that is called for. Enough of the letting them have their opinon because everyone is entitled to an opinion, their opinion is a threat to our planet.

Enough pussyfooting around, this shit is serious and making out that it is okay to have a difference of opinon is hiding from the reality. The right's agenda is anti-evolutionary and a threat to all living things on this planet.

13. You bet wrong
Everyone but one (an anarchist) I live with up in my dorm suite is a College Republican, and many other students know where I lay with respect to politics. They all know I'm a member of the College Democrats, the only one in that suite, and we get along just fine. There are no fights, no arguments, just discussions when it comes to politics. We disagree on plenty of stuff, but that's no reason to let it degenerate into a damn shouting match.

It can be quite hard to be civil with certain other people around here in Mississippi, but I try to stick to my principles as best as I can, and I don't believe in starting crap first with anyone. The only time I could see myself ever firing back is when they've struck first.

What this thread is about is something I'd never do. It was uncalled for, just like it was uncalled for people to pull up to my window and scream, "Go to hell, Democrat!"

22. A set of MANNERS is always a nice thing to own.
I agree, Selatius.

We're NOT rightwingnuts and part of that is (usually) because we do have manners and respect towards others that the rightwingnuts don't.

Calling bumper stickers "hostile rhetoric" is quite the excuse; freepers will want to use it whenever they see Kerry stickers.

8. Not bad worth it
I actually turned a freeper(s) last week, something that I think is very rare. They were life long Republicans voted for W and are now former members of the NRA.

Most fun I have had in years. I have to admit they were ripe for the plucking but they did not come into the light until after November 2. The former stickers on their car resemble your description.

take em down a bit, it's nice to know that someone else got irritated for a change. Usually we are the ones that are left having to hold back after bearing their insults and rude behavior. Just be very careful, once I gave this guy the finger and he jumped out of his car and started pounding on my car with his fists. :scared: I guess he realized he was being an ass threatening a woman like that cause he jumped back in his car and took off. :o I learned a lesson from that scary episode, there are lots of nuts around and I was lucky that the guy didn't attack me or do any actual damage to my car. I now keep my hands and fingers on the wheel where they belong and my mouth shut, I rather be safe than sorry. ;-)

I probably wouldnt be here to talk about it. Or scream something at me, or whatever. Sad that it comes to that, but I have read here many times that it already has...scary stuff.

35. This is why...
This is why Democrats are losing elections. Many Republicans are not voting for Bush because they believe in him, but because they dislike what the Left represents. To them, the Left is made up of loons, commies, and sluts. Way to go - reinforcing that stereotype! This guy will probably go tell all his friends what a douchbag some democrat was to him.

I think if you're friendly about it, there's very little risk of danger.

If you're obviously just looking for trouble and seem pissed off, then yeah, you might find a fight.
