1. this is it, right?
he's nursing it like a new born babe>>

http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/12/08/intelligence.bill/

Among them were provisions that would have barred states from issuing driver's licenses to illegal immigrants and limited appeals for immigrants facing deportation.

Hastert, a Republican from Illinois, held the bill, and House-Senate conferees went back to work to find language that would ease the concerns of the congressmen.

Many Democrats and Republicans were angered because they said they had the votes to pass the bill -- without the two congressmen and their supporters.

Bush pushed for the bill in his radio address Saturday and in a letter Monday to Congress, and Vice President Dick Cheney joined in the weekend talks.

PLEASE GO TO THE OP SITE AND CALL YOUR REPS!!
The CNN article, of course, is sugar coated.
:kick: give him a DEFEAT FOR ONCE!!!

2. More info:
Overview by ACLU:

Conservative Voices Against PATRIOT Act II (at ACLU site)

This is VERY bad. It represents a clear crossing of the tyrannical rubicon, IMHO. It is the crowing jewel in the Neocon diadem. Anything goes? Constitution? Fourth Amendment? Rights?

Who's supposed to be watching out for us again? We the People?!?

3. THe US has spent most of my life time fighting communism. In
Russia, you need your ID to go anywhere outside your own town. You need it to check into hotels, get plane, train, or bus tickets. Why are we becoming like the system we hated so much???

5. Does one truly become
that which one hates most?

Or, was the Cold War merely a political game with an Orwellian enemy for the sake of smoke-screens and manipulation?

Either way, whatever you call it, Political Oligarchy, Plutocracy, Fascism, Corpocracy, etc., the Elite as the "few" who own and rule are having a filed day over we, the "vulgar" masses.

I think of a speech by Arundhati Roy in this case. For some reason, it comes to mind.

Just speculations on my part.

9. So is this "National ID Card" like "papers?"
You know, as in -- Nazi Germany: "Where are your papers?"

I particularly like the one about letting your employer have access to your arrest records. That certainly is important for national security. :eyes:

And did someone alert the militias that their training activities could be classified as terrorist?

What a joke. I suppose the "small government" freeptards are 100 percent behind this HUGE STATIST BIG BROTHER BILL.
