Nothing like having your priorities right ...
Ten Commandments Backed by Bush Administration in Court Fight

Dec. 8 (Bloomberg) -- The Bush administration, saying that religion ``has played a defining role'' in the nation's history, urged the U.S. Supreme Court to permit Ten Commandments displays in courthouses. The Justice Department today filed a brief supporting two Kentucky counties accused of violating the constitutional ban on government establishment of religion by posting framed copies of the Ten Commandments.

``Official acknowledgement and recognition of the Ten Commandments' influence on American legal history comport with the Establishment Clause,'' the administration argued in a brief filed with the court in Washington.

The filing came in one of two Ten Commandments cases the high court will review early next year. Hundreds of state and local governments sponsor such displays. The justices are also considering the constitutionality of a monument on the Texas State Capitol grounds.

In the Kentucky case, McCreary and Pulaski County officials modified the displays after the American Civil Liberties Union sued. The counties added other documents, including an excerpt from the Declaration of Independence, the national motto of ``In God We Trust'' and a proclamation from President Ronald Reagan marking 1983 as the Year of the Bible.

2. For craps sake!!
This shit has to be stopped. The constant discussion of "Religion" in government is crowding the airwaves/media.

We ARE NOT A CHRISTIAN nation!!!!!!! Many of our founders were believers in a "god" ...but NOT any particular religion. That's the end of it.

A STATE SANCTIONED religion is NOT called for in any of our founding documents. We are a secular society that allows FREEDOM OF RELIGIOUS CHOICE.

The Ten Commandments are of the Judeo-Christian religous sect, not part of any other religious persuasion. They do NOT belong in public/governmental buildings/venus. Whatever "religious" symbols there are that already exist in old buildings is fine. But no NEW incorporation of these icons should be installed; that would be flagrantly discriminatory.

3. I don't believe that the Ten Commandments have to be viewed...

as just being religious. To me they are just basic rules of being human. Change the name, take out the references to God and everyone should be happy. Just my humble opinion.

4. Ummm, except for the first two
"I am thy only God, thou shalt have no gods before me," and "thou shalt set up no graven images." (I'm doing this on memory, don't have a Bible around anymore, but think I got the gist of it.)

Think the Fundies would go for the abbreviated eight commandments?

I've condensed them - Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you. - covers everything.

7. Well, if we took that seriously, then
we'd have to be destroying our own country as well as other people's.

Wait... damn, he's already taken care of that as well. Looks like he's following that policy too :)
