when you are attacked and don't have a choice but fight. When you set the date yourself, that excuse if laughable. When you set the date a year and a half ago and you still haven't fixed the problem, you should be prosecuted!

"You don't go to elective war unprepared!", would be my motto on the issue (maybe just you don't go to elective war, period).
