Another take on the "moving Left/Right" issue
Maybe I'm the only one, but it seems to me that the whole problem with the Dems, and the "moving to the right," or the "moving to the left," strategy, is the idea of moving in the first place. The problem is that the Dems have moved too much back and forth. One of the main attacks on Kerry during this campaign was that he had no core values, and moved with the political wind. If we keep moving back and forth, we only validate that argument. We need to stay where we are in terms of ideas and values, and define where we are. I've always thought that was the center-left.

Arianna Huffington called it right when she reminded us that the Repubs aren't even thinking about governing from the center. Karl Rove, during the Barbara Walters special last night, called Bush a man of the center-right. We all know that's a filthy lie, but the Dems keep falling for the "Republicans are moderate" trap. Howard Dean was right when he said that "the one thing the Republicans want us to do more than move to the Left, is to move to the Right." We're supposed to be the Big Tent party, but we keep moving the tent. It's time to pitch the tent, stay there, and weather the storm that is four more years of Republican rule.

Of course, I could be full of crap, but I doubt it.
