Help! Question about "They hate your christ" Dobson comment
Anyone remember that comment from Wacko James Dobson about how Bush owes liberals nothing because we hate his christ? Anyone know where I can find this entire quote? Additionally, anyone know where I can find a quote of what he said to Stephanopoulos on "This Week"? I have tried Google, Yahoo!, the Focus on the Family website (ich!) and the ABC News This Week site, but have been unable to find it. I am beginning to think that I imagined the whole thing.

2. "Why do so many people on DU hate Jesus?" question in the religion
forum.

It figures that it would be a right-wing meme.

"Why do liberals hate Jesus"

---

I can't answer your question, though....

4. question should be: why do conservatives dis-obey Jesus?
I used to be quite the little hippie Jesus Freak, and I studied the new testament backwards and forwards. I was a huge fan of Jesus. If you actually read what he said and taught, he was obviously a liberal pacifist.

These people not only ignore Jesus' real teachings, but they insult Jesus by going 100% against what he said and THEN attributing their hatred to him.

It's disgusting, it's immoral, it's dishonest, and, well, it pisses me the fuck off

6. Here is an excerpt: Spirit of Antichrist: Bush
Lang did not write the expose, but he is
quoted generously through out it, as are other
TRUE Christians.
BHN

"but few have preached harder against
the Christian right's wrongs than the Rev.
Rich Lang of Seattle's Trinity United
Methodist Church in Ballard. "This
administration is a culture of death, and
so is the religious right," says Lang. In his
Open Letter to George Bush, published
in Real Change, Lang thunders, "You
claim Christ but act like Caesar. There is
blood all over your hands with the
promise of even more blood to come.
You sit atop the nations like the Biblical
Whore of Babylon openly fornicating
with the military men of might." His
sermon "George Bush and the Rise of
Christian Fascism" (posted like Luther's
theses on the church Web site,
www.tumseattle.org) rails that "the
power and seduction of this
administration emerges from its
diabolical manipulation of Christian
rhetoric . . . the mirror opposite of what
Jesus embodied. It is, indeed, the
materialization of the spirit of Antichrist: a
perversion of Christian faith and
practice."

I shouldn't support preaching politics in church, but damn that felt good.

11. Amen and Hallelujah!
I still consider myself a Christian. I do not, however, consider these Bible beaters Christan's. Maybe some other religion, but not Christianity. My Bible says those that preach will be judged by GOD more harshly than those who do not and those who judge will be judged by GOD more harshly than those who do not. My Bible also says to read and interpret the words of the Bible for yourself and do not let others mislead you into believing their version of the Bible. My Bible doesn't mention "rapture," but it does mention the fact that "the meek shall inherit the earth." My Bible portrays Jesus as a liberal, who healed the sick and gave shelter to the poor and DEMANDED his followers do the same.

15. Rev. Rich Lang's Open Letter to Bush
This is the kind of Christianity that I was raised on:

http://216.197.101.64/trinity/pictures/openlettertobush.pdf

An excerpt:

Dear President Bush,
When you were running for office you stated that Jesus Christ was your favorite philosopher. You have made a
point of proclaiming your Christian faith. You have put time and energy in an attempt to link Church mission
with state social security. You have, particularly since 9/11, continually preached God Bless America on almost
every public occasion. As a Pastor and fellow United Methodist I need to ask you: "Do you know what the
values and vision of Jesus are?"
I ask the question because I am baffled and confused by your behavior. You claim Christ but act like Caesar.
There is blood all over your hands with the promise of even more blood to come. You sit atop the nations like
the Biblical Whore of Babylon openly fornicating with the military men of might, their corporate sponsors,
their nuclear madness, and their insatiable hunger for global armament. Is this how you learned Christ?

13. It's because they have confused the right wing fundamentalist
presentation of what they think Jesus is, with the Jesus of Nazareth, who was called "the Christ" because he embodied the presence of God. The Christ Consciousness is the realization of God within. A level of consciousness that each of us can obtain. Jesus taught that.

Then when you study the words of Jesus, you grow to love him and realize what a radical he was. It is very difficult to practice what he taught: to love your neighbor as yourself (because your neighbor is your selfi..."I am you and you are me and we are all together..."
To treat others as you would like to be treated, to love you enemy, to heal the sick, to feed the hungry, to house the homeless, to befriend the outcasts.

Most of those so called "Christians" don't even begin to practice what Jesus taught.

-shoving Jesus saves down everyones throats, like the Christian fundamentalist Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and all the other shitloads of assholes---Shouting at everyone, his bullshit interpretation of his bullshit bible!!!

It's ONLY their way that is the correct way and your always wrong and part of the devil if you don't agree with them...then you have cocksuckers like Bush pushing this Jesus cult shit onto the public airwaves, as God's way and God told him and next legislating this shit into fucking laws.

14. Jesus would forgive them for not knowing what they do.
Christ is his level of consciousness, not his last name.

He taught to love your enemies.

18. Dobson is so fond of executions, I'm surprised he would object to even one
Edited on Thu Dec-09-04 09:04 PM by The Flaming Red Head

Would Christ get the lethal injection in Texas?

If he did would we all be wearing tiny hypodermics around our necks?

Would we all join hands and pray to a giant needle?
