NEW DELHI, INDIA -- A day after being challenged by a soldier on the Army's failure to provide adequate armor for vehicles used in Iraq, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Thursday he expects the Army to do its best to resolve the problem.

"The concerns expressed are being addressed and that is -- we expect our troops to have the best possible equipment," Bush said at the White House. "If I were a soldier overseas wanting to defend my country I'd want to ask the secretary of defense the same question. And that is, 'Are we getting the best we can get us?' And they deserve the best.

"And I have told many families I've met with, we're doing everything we possibly can to protect your loved ones in a mission which is vital and important. And that mission is to spread freedom and peace," Bush said.

Despite Rumsfeld's contentions, Bloomberg News was reporting today that Armor Holdings Inc., the sole supplier of protective plates for the Humvee military vehicles used in Iraq, said it could increase output by as much as 22 percent per month with no investment and is awaiting an order from the Army. Armor Holdings, based in Jacksonville, Fla., last month told the Army it could add armor to as many as 550 of the trucks a month, up from 450 vehicles now, Robert Mecredy, president of the company's aerospace and defense group, said in an interview Thursday with Bloomberg.

Vehicles there and why only one contractor is involved. The Damn things are made by GM so why not build them that way at the factory.

This entire situation is FUBAR and that "old swill" can't even lie straight. His statement about, "You go to war with the Army you have," Rumsfeld replied, "not the Army you might want or wish to have." WTF, he isn't dodging bullets and explosive standing behind his desk. That is the most ignorant statement to come out of his piehole in a while.
