So will Bernard Kerik be prosecuted for tax fraud????
Since he admitted frauding the federal government concerning non-payment of employee tax, the government should go after his ass.

1. Let's not overreact

What he did is the same thing that thousands of taxpayers do every year, and he should be treated no differently than anyone else.

2. You don't think that you and I would be prosecuted????? C'mon.

Besides, I would NOT make this mistake. You have a green card or you don't. You can work in the US or you can't. It's pretty black and white.

4. I'm sure we wouldn't.
There aren't enough prosecutors to handle all the cases like this that occur every year.

10. Well what? What do you want. If the IRS finds fraud they will
pursue me or you or joe blow or bernard kerik. What do you want me to tell you, that they won't. They may not go after me or you because they wouldn't find out. If you tell the world you are guilty , they will find out. duh.

11. I just want some Googled cases...
Edited on Sat Dec-11-04 02:25 PM by Padraig18
After all, if the IRS prosecutes 'me or you or joeblow', then surely some of them made the news, and Google would find the stories. Unless, of course, that's not the way the IRS normally handles situations like this--- which is what I'm sure is the norm.

13. In reading the first case....
The individuals involved collected (withheld) the taxes, but did not pay them over to the government.

I'm still waiting.

Seriously if you contend that NO ONE has ever been prosecuted for this crime than you should be able to google that, because that is a much bigger story and all the prosecutions combined.

14. Uh.... I don't think Joe Blow HAS domestic help
Don't you think that by definition, people who have domestics for sufficient time to have to withhold taxes and whose prosecutions make the news aren't joe blow?

Fact is, the only joe blow in the scenario is the domestic, and from my memory, their was an effort to increase EITC audits, which probably picks up more domestics than anything else.

15. That misses the point.
The fact is that the IRS doesn't generally prosecute anyone for piddly shit like this.

19. It hits the point
since you haven't established the premise--you aren't going to find anyone prosecuted at all by googling news items because nobody gets prosecuted, which you for some strange reason decided because it was piddly shit.

Let me suggest its because few get caught, and they only get caught because the media and political enemies made a point of it. Such people are rich and connected or it wouldn't have made the papers. Being rich and connected, they aren't prosecuted. The same attributes that make a scandal provides for a pass in the IRS bureaucracy.

So nobody gets prosecuted. Prove that it shouldn't be so.

9. Of all the sh*t he has been involved with, tax fraud easiest to deal with
He pays back taxes + some penalties and he is fine and dandy. Prevents a really close look and the likelihood of proving something which would get him locked up big time.

He took the coward's way out. No big surprise there. G. Gordon Liddy impersonator who talked the talk but couldn't walk the walk in Iraq. If I were G. Gordon, I would bitch slap the coward and look into suing him for some sort of trademark infringement ;)

18. Funny
...how Bush said he is the perfect person for the job (or something to that effect), and he didn't even seem to look into this mans background. Maybe he thought we would turn a blind eye... hell, he seems to be getting away with everything else. It's all really VERY sad. Just wait until after Inauguration day! We're screwed!!!
