MARCH NOW.. its time... story from DC rally today ..
Please read though.. I am a 34 yr old engineer living outside DC, I worked on construction and alternative energy engineering years ago, but with little funding in that lately I have been in real estate to get by. I was at the rally held by redefeatbush.com today....

I hear some people say thing on DU like waiting for leaders, or this fact will help our case... or I know what will work... and I just want to make SURE you all know that those brainstorming activities are good and fun even, but in reality, there is only 1 sure way to make this happen.. (barring the media having a change of heart, Airforce 1 crashing... lol) PEOPLE IN THE STREETS PROTESTING FOR FAIR ELECTIONS!

I went downtown today (12/11), to the rally... only a few dozen showed (some Larouche's, couple Freeptypes, couple of kooks and bunch of "normal" protesters). I arrived strong and ready to fight, but so few showed. I had brought with me a 30ft long 6ft wide bolt of orange cloth. I was planning on having many people hold it... but the crowd was too small and I never unfurled it. We all knew there were way too few. A MSM reporter showed up (really, its DC)and interviewed a couple speakers (the head of redefeat and the reverend from Ohio). All they could say was that they were from a news network that goes by 3 letters (CNN ABC CBS NBC take your pick). My point here is, if we had 1000's we would BE ON the news now! But the speakers were passionate, and the crowd fed off it and gained some strength. As I stood there listening, I trembled with fear and excitement,it was larger than life, gonna change the world. I watched as tourists walked by, and as the secret service circled us... I could see the snipers on the roof of the White House. We must conquer our fear and stand as 1, or fall as many. This is not a message of defeat, it is a call to battle! if you are waiting for the call, it has come, I will lead you if you see no other leaders... but I heard the call from others... From John Kerry, who said many times that this election is in the hands of the voters, I heard Jesse Jackson call for the people to take to the streets... I heard the call from congressmen and women that said it is time to mobilize, I heard new leaders like William Pitt from DU,journalist Wayne Madsen and David Lytel from redefeatbush but mostly, I heard the call of the truth that compelled me to travel downtown, stand in the shadow of the huge inaugural scaffold they are building, across from the White House itself (and yes he was home from his physical) and protest the most powerful man in the world.... Our leaders can not do it alone.. I can not do it alone, and you can not do it alone.. but WE can!

So I say to you.. join me here in DC, (NOW, or plan on sometime around the 3rd, when the new congress is sworn in... to the 6th, when the electors votes are recorded, or protested, you know how to stay informed). WE NEED TO BE SURROUNDING THE CAPITOL!! In the mean time, gather your strength, spread the word....

THE VOTING RIGHTS REVOLUTION HAS BEGUN!! (this is not a drill.. I repeat, this is not a drill) TRUE FREEDOM IS ON THE MARCH!

***note*** I suggest a slower more subtle approach to people.. you got a few weeks to get them packing for DC. You are not crazy.. it happened... they laughed at Columbus when he said the earth is round, guess what.. he was right!

ps.. wheres Eminem? .. we need that mosh downtown!

1. This is true
We don't have any open protest going on in mass numbers. Most people seem to think that its somebody else's responsibility to take care of democracy.

2. My friend I know what you are saying
there are demonstrations all over the place... 50 here, 100 there, maybe 200 over there... problem is that many people are STILL waiting for those leaders to rise... we are those leaders.

By the way, match you on this... so far we have had TWO demonstrations in San Diego California... this is at the heart of freeperville in many respects... and we are planning more events.

I ask people, what are they willing to give up to reestablish the republic? I wonder if people are only willing to WHINE?

3. "slower" not a good idea. Delay brings acceptance of Bush presidency.
Every weekend is a better idea.

7. people are waiting for solid proof, not leaders
if some SOLID proof comes out on Monday, then people WILL start mobilizing...but again, people have been burned time and again on circumstancial evidence.

You got proof? Bring it on. America will thank you.

5. This rally really happened? Damn, I wanted to go.
You know folks. When I first heard about this rally a few weeks ago, I was all ready to drive four hours, rearange my work schedule, call in some favors from relatives for space on the couch and get out and protest.

Problem is, it fell off the radar screen. I assumed it wasn't going to happen.

This is a big problem on the left. I want to voice my opinion in the streets but for me and for others to take the time there has to be a good probablity that enough people are going to be there so I'm not standing there with the flakes and nuts and Larouchies. I want to look at the sponsoring organizations and see whether they are organizations I agree with or at least can live with being associated with. The abortion rights march last spring was a good example of a well run protest as was the march at the Repbulcian convention. I didn't see any of that sort of thing happening and quite frankly, after a brief mention in a thread on DU there was nothing else about it.

Sadly it seems like the speakers were legitimate people but somehow efforts to get protesters out just didn't happen. Most of us work. Some of us work two or even three jobs.

6. Corrrectomundo: "We are not crazy. It really happened."
We cannot use the remote to change the political channel. We will actually have to get up from our Barcaloungers, and do something.

Thanks for your inspired exhortations, Griff

10. I rallied on Saturday
I live in a heavy Republican based area, and we put on a rally yesterday. We had about 20 people most at any time, but I thought it was a success. We stood on the corner with our signs of voter fraud and media failure. There was frequent honking of support and several people shaking their heads at us, like we were nuts. Whenever anyone yelled "I voted for Bush", I yelled back, "then give him your kid for the war in Iraq. I'm not giving him mine."

People actually parked and walked over to us asking what they can do to join the cause. Others stopped and picked up signs and joined us.

It wasn't big, but it was encouraging and a great beginning, especially in the area where we live. The organizer of this rally explained that there is no such thing as a bad turn out. He told me of a rally he had once gone to where as he arrived, there was one lone protester standing with his sign on the corner and it was powerful. After 20 minutes, 50 other people showed up with their signs and it was more scattered in message. He kept thinking of the enormous impact that one protester made by himself. In other words, these rallies can be very effective no matter how many do or don't show up.

But I do agree that people are getting disinterested and distancing them at a time when we desperately need unity. We need to keep the real information flowing and the committees actively ivolved. It is disheartening to see more and more break away from the cause when they should realize how critical their involvement is now.
