Let's list issues our party needs to concentrate on
#1 - 10 - the media - we either have to do better when we are on corporate media or develop and expand our own media

#2 - National Security and Foriegn Policy

#3 - Become a 50 state party

Until we have a media that will report what we say, we can't do anything about Social Security, the environment, domestic spending and programs, and other Democratic issues. Even reframing the debate won't help unless we get the media to be more friendly to Dems.

1. #1 - Election Reform.
Quite frankly, we will not have a party if this is not top priority.

Free and fair elections that are readily auditable. National standard. Perhaps, if it's not too much to ask, election day national holiday.

4. Put the working class economy back on the table
Edited on Sun Dec-12-04 01:22 PM by Warpy
Open a discussion on how job loss to countries with a shitty currency exchange against the almighty dollar can be stopped.

Open a discussion about how the tax system affects economic justice. Discuss how underfunding things like education has led to disrepair, and how the men who underfunded it in the first place point to the disrepair as evidence that it is a failure and should be privatized.

Open a discussion about how and why corporations enjoy all the benefits of human citizens with none of the responsibiliities or liabilities.

Discuss ways to protect strategic industries within our borders so that this country won't be completely defenseless in the next big war.

Open a discussion on alternatives to creating Empire in the middle east to ensure a supply of cheap oil.

Open a discussion of what the military's mission needs to be now and in the future. Should we keep squandering them to provide muscle for multinational corporations who pay nothing in the way of taxes toward their upkeep, shifting the entire burden onto the backs of working people?

Most of all, discuss how the private sector has failed miserably in some areas, most notably in health care delivery, and discuss the alternatives that can be done about it.

Then make a party plan based on all these things.

5. Local Image.
If your local Dem is an idiot, making stupid news, it hurts us all.
We got the grass roots $, now we need the grass roots people in all elected offices. But if your gonna run for school board, and when you get elected, try to make the school go vegetarian*, and keep the kids from wearing any leather, please do not run as a Dem.

David

* not to pick on you guys, but it was the first issue that came to mind. And yes, a semil local ran as a Dem on that platform a couple of years back, got beat in the primary, but tainted the party, and a re-pug won the seat.
