Lieberman as Head of Homeland Security?
Say what?

"Mr Bush is expected to move quickly, possibly as early as today, to
announce his replacement choice as Homeland Security Secretary.

The most daring appointment would be to follow the advice of Susan
Collins, a Republican senator from Maine, and choose Joe Lieberman,
a Democrat. Ms Collins carries some weight on the issue as chairman
of the Senate committee that will oversee the nomination process.

There has been talk in Washington of Mr Bush seeking to tap the genial
Connecticut senator for a Cabinet job. Mr Lieberman is a defence hawk
and centrist who was one of the driving forces behind the post-9/11
creation of the Department of Homeland Security.

His appointment would earn Mr Bush points for being bipartisan. It
could also increase the Republicans’ ten-vote majority in the Senate.
The replacement for Mr Lieberman would be chosen by the Governor
of Connecticut, a Republican."

3. The only reason Bush would appoint Lieberman to anything:
"It could also increase the Republicans’ ten-vote majority in the Senate.
The replacement for Mr Lieberman would be chosen by the Governor
of Connecticut, a Republican."

5. Wonder what sort of a message that would send to our arab allies?

That guy is so one sided pro Israel you might as well put Sharon in the post. Don't get me wrong I think Israel has a right to fight back against these terrorists, but now with our gov't and I feel that's what Leiberman would want to do. m,jntgrfffff

11. Bush would score with the Jewish vote in the U.S., that's for sure...
and edge closer to breaking the filibuster power of the Democrats.

To think I used to like Susan Collins. Since the stolen election of 2004,
her nose has been perpetually brown.

6. All that Joementum has...
... pushed him right over to the Dark Side. He wasn't that far away from them to begin with. I'm still not over him co-chairing Lynne Cheney's little McCarthy-ite exercise in outing every college professor that doesn't toe the administration line on administration policy, war and Israel.

That he was the first Democrat to jump on his soapbox and call for Clinton's impeachment didn't help, either. Someone who's done as much whoring for the insurance and accounting industries as he has is on thin ice behaving as a moralist.

That said, I don't think he could be as bad as Kerik. But, I think there's enough in this article to pretty much confirm that Lieberman isn't in the running. Bush is filling his cabinet with people he knows already, people who aren't to going to question a thing he says. Lieberman is very supportive of Bush, but he's not a stooge. And that's what Bush wants--willing, rabidly loyal stooges.
