Holy Joe Back On List For Homeland Security Job
(New Haven-WTNH, Dec. 13, 2004 6:50 AM ) _ The president's first choice to become the next Homeland Security Director, Bernard Kerik, says he no longer wants to be considered for the job. That decision may open the door for Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman to become the second Homeland Security chief.

Sunday's edition of the Washington Post reports the president wants Senator Lieberman to run the Cabinet post.

more

not a lot more in this piece or the one I posted in LBN from the Times, but what the fuck?! I suppose he's slightly less crooked than Kerik, and perhaps more Republican ...

1. Maybe Bush...
...is seeking the outright support of the DLC now. And I guess that's one way for Joementum to get into the Presidential cabinet, since he did everything possible to screw Gore's chances.

Brighter brains than mine prevailed: One less Dem (nominal though he is); one more appointed Republican to take his seat. Dammit all to hell.

edited to give credit to the brighter brains in LBN!

6. If Lieberman truly wants to screw the USA, he should accept it
Consideration for him in this post is disturbing on so many levels that I'd consider him an out and out traitor if he accepted the position.

o the Democrats could lose another Senate vote.

o it would give a false appearance of bipartisanship from Bush.

o the risks of an attack with a Democrat in charge of security while arguably the most hated man in the world is in office.

o the inference Arabs around the world will draw from his appointment. He is qualified for any post in government but accepting any post that is so closely connected to Israeli-Arab conflicts will only inflame the distrust from Arab allies. Joe's outspokenness and cheer-leading for the Iraq action hasn't done him any favors toward appearing impartial in the matters.

I think the Bush admin would use him as punching bag for their failings. Since it's going to seem to be a little bit of a stretch to be blaming Clinton by 06 (and beyond), even to the most brain dead of bush supporters
