Leavitt nominated for HHS...President in '08? |
Former Utah Governor Mike Leavitt is being nominated for Health and Humans Services Secretary. That and the EPA where he is coming from are great positions for a Republican who doesn't want to appear to be too extreme on environmental, health and poverty issues. Leavitt was Chair of the Republican Governor's Association while he was Governor and became well known at that time.
Utah is a very difficult state for a Republican to run for President from, but his time in the Bush cabinet gives him more national exposure. I wouldn't be surprised if he has ambitions to run for President in '08.

2. Considering he's from Utah |
I think he's not that bad from what I've heard. But a moderate Republican in Utah would still be considered an ultra-conservative in most other states.

3. Hillary vs. Leavitt should be interesting n/t |
but my guess would be that they nominate some popular moderate like Giuliani.

4. I don't think either of those two will get the nomination |
but I wouldn't be surprised to see either of them run.

5. Actually Leavitt was a moderate Republican, even the GOP here hated him. |
But that doesn't mean he'd make a good president. He was a do nothing governor, very ineffective.
