It can't be Bush unless they change the law (and that would mean Clinton could run again) and it won't be Cheney - he may be dead before then.

3. If it's McCain, we're screwed.
Luckily, I think with Bush's "mandate", they'll feel no need to stop from going even further to the right, and not pick him..

5. If it's McCain, Guliani or any other 'moderate'
my guess is that Buchanon or some other complete nutjob will run as an independent and split the vote.

10. No, we just have to work harder to inform the public
how completely forceless McCain has been as a politician. He blasts Bush's economic policies, but then steadfastly endorses Bush's reelection bid. He criticizes Bush's handling of the war, but then steadfastly endorses Bush's reelection bid. He says he has "no confidence" in Rumsfeld, but refuses to say that Rumsfeld should resign (why? is it OK that someone who you have "no confidence" in should remain on the job??)

McCain is more a flip-flopper than probably any other politician in recent times, and this message should be proclaimed loud and clear well ahead of time.

11. McCain will be 72
I'm not saying that totally removes him from the contest, but it's not a plus.

18. If it's McCain, think of the fantastic attack ads...
"The Bush campaign slimed him and his family, and then he campaigned for him, repeatedly kissing his ring. Is this the kind of integrity we want for America?"

9. Would the corporate donors allow that?
I seriously doubt he can win the nomination. The GOP is controlled by corporations and evangelical Christians and neither of those groups like McCain very much.

I'd buy popcorn for that thar fight.

I would imagine that the mid-terms will dictate the terms of the 2008 Preznit candidates, so sorry, I will pass on making a fearless prediction.

oh, what the hey. Put me down for Condi at 600:1.

8. Someone may replace Cheney as VP
Not sure who yet, but I think they'll get a new VP in the next year or two. Cheney's health gives them a great cover to replace him without admitting they're wrong. This would let them take an unknown guy and get him 2-3 years of free campaigning, as well as name recognition.

15. A fetus.
They will devolve totally into ridiculous symbolism and run a fetus for President, with the VP candidate being the body of a dead non-Christian.

"We're the party of fetuses and dead atheists."

16. George Allen from Virginia is a possibility
However, Repubs like to choose Governors.

Pataki will go nowhere.

Hagel is too independent for them to control, & he's a friend of McCain, so he's automatically suspect.

Maybe it will be the Cat Killer?????

Who knows what this fun bunch may do?

17. Guilani and Jeb
I have this feeling that Cheney will leave (for health reasons) two years or so from now. Guilani will be the appointed VP. In 08, VP Guilani will run with Jeb as his running mate. :evilfrown:

Then if I were Rudy, I'd hire a food taster!

19. Amend the Constitution!!!!

I've always been against term limits -- but that is for another post. If Repukes really believe that Bush is the second coming, let them put their money where there mouth is.

It sickens me to hear good liberals and progressives say things like "At least Bush can't run again." I don't want him going out in 2008 on his own free will -- I want another crack at him. To beat him so badly that no amount of fraud in the world could cover it up.

Plus, we have the best candidate out there -- it simply goes against every shred of democracy to prevent him from running.

So here it is -- I'm throwing down the gauntlet. The media loves all-star games, so let them get on board.

Big Dog vs. Shrub in 2008 -- that would be like Xmas every day of the year!

On Edit: I realize that my "gauntlet" amounts to jack squat, but it was fun to dream.
