Edward Lee Pitts is a reporter who specializes in military affairs for the Times Free Press of Chattanooga, Tenn. His work last week will help more American soldiers come home alive and whole from Iraq, instead of dead, disfigured or limbless.

For this, Pitts was trashed by the likes of Rush Limbaugh, the obediently right-wing editorial page of Rupert Murdoch's New York Post and some ideological fellow travelers.
