WASHINGTON – For one night only, it'll be spitballs and Swift Boats together on the same stage – a who's who of Sen. John Kerry bashing.

The American Conservative Union on Thursday announced it has tapped Sen. Zell Miller, D-Ga., to present the "Courage Under Fire" award to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth at the Conservative Political Action Conference's Feb. 18 banquet.

Miller and the group of Vietnam veterans were behind perhaps the campaign's two fiercest and most memorable attacks on Kerry's unsuccessful presidential bid.

Miller, who is retiring next month, scorched Kerry in a Republican National Convention keynote address in which he suggested the four-term Massachusetts Democrat had voted to cut so many weapons systems, it appeared he wanted to send the military to war with only spitballs.

9. What prompted Zell's conversion? Anyone know?

I had assumed Zell one of those old segregation era Democrats, but a friend of mine who lived in Georgia said that wasn't the case. She said he had been a reasonable governor of Georgia and hadn't had the racist history that many of the Southern Democrats had. When did he become such a raving right-winger? Was it 9/11? What prompted his conversation? I'm asking a serious question here. I'd appreciate any insight.

My fantasy scenario: Right in the middle of the ceremony, a lawyer walks in and serves them all papers. You are hearby being used by John Kerry for slander.

It probably won't happen. It's hard to sue as a public political figure. But hell's bells, when are these people going to stop. They KNOW they lied. They must know they lied. How can they stand there and take medals for it.
