Are we giving the DLC way too much credit?
Are we exagerrating the power it holds by talking about it so much? I mean, to blame everything on them...it's almost pathetic. We're using it as a scapegoat for all the party's problems.

I say this as someone that doesn't especially like them or their supposed "leadership". I just think that it's almost to a point, where we're simply whining about it. The most effective approach is probably strengthening DFA and other parties inside the Dem party that can eventually replace it as a leadership entity.

My personal view is that the DLC isn't inherently evil, but simply clueless and incompetant.

The DLC is just one of many factions in the party. There will always be conservative/more moderate members in the party...and that's fine, because the party will always be a big tent.

The key is making sure they don't call the shots...taking the "Leadership" part out of the DLC. It's not about "purging" them.

1. DLC
Read the column by David Sirota featured on Common Dreams today. It will be in The Nation on Jan 3rd. Very interesting and revealing imo about the Party.

2. The danger democrats face is not recognizing the damage and
hold of the DLC on the DNC. We cannot (mis)underestimate the influence of this nefarious group on the strategy of the democratic party in national election campaigns. We have to ascribe the worst to the DLC in order to completely exorcised the group from power in the party. I don't mind the group being one of the several groups that air their views on issues in the party, but that should be the extent of their being in the party. We should NOT allow the group the type of control it currently has over the party in shaping and running things.

8. So we need to "exorcise" Feinsten, Dodd, Rendel, Landreu, Cantwell,
Stabenow, Warner, and Clinton? Sounds like a winner to me. Where do you guys come up with this stuff?

3. no.
The DLC was founded in 1985 for the particular purpose of making the party more centrist. I don't blame them for every problem in the party, but I do blame them for that one, and that one is very significant in my mind.

5. I think the DLC's effect is overstated at DU
However, DLC did make the Democrats pro-NAFTA, which was undoubtedly a corporatist position.

6. Ask Michael Moore. I'm sure he'd have something to say.

7. Ever since they invented that mind control ray....
they have been running everything. They choose who wins the primaries. They control Diane Feinstein and made her join the DLC against her will. Ed Rendell is one of their powerless puppets.... Few can resist their will.
