I was wrong about the Lewinsky scandal

when I believed it was about retribution for Clinton's having beaten Bush 1. Well, yeah, there was that aspect, but now I believe it was only a corollary-- 'collateral benefit', you might say. I think the true import of the entire "scandal" investigations: Whitewater/Foster/Lewinsky--the whole enchilada-- was diversion. The recent tragic death of Gary Webb got me back (I had forgotten--to my everlasting shame) on the track of what may be the most corrupt and insidious chapter of the Triumph of the Dark Side ( the book I'd like to write about the wheels coming off of America from Nixon, through Reagan, Bush 1 to Bush 2). Webb was vilified for his breaking the story of the Contra-FBI-cocaine cartel under Reagan.
And the kicker: at exactly the time when SENATOR JOHN KERRY was beginning the pressure to investigate this, the FBI was admitting its culpability (GUILT), reports were being made to Congress outling my country's illegal activities--what was EVERY MAJOR MEDIA AND EVERYBODY ELSE IN AMERICA---obsessing with? A damn blowjob.
Now I think I see it for what it truly was: a cynical successful attempt by the VRWC to divert attention from a real constitutional crisis to a damn blowjob. SHIT!

The last two paragraphs of the ConsortiuumNews story say it all. I mourn Webb. I mourn our slide into the Dark. But I damn well will not go without a fight!
