Thoughts on Schwarzenegger?
I just read yesterday's story about his tapping Alan Lloyd to be CA EPA chief, which is certainly a good move from an environmental standpoint.

I'm looking for Californians', or informed others, opinions of Schwarzenegger so far. He seems to be a reasonable guy from where I'm sitting - but then again, national "news" doesn't carry everything.

Chime in.

2. What you have to understand about Arnie is that
he's out for himself and himself only...to an almost psychopathic degree. He's moderate cuz that's what most Americans are. I sometimes wonder if he has any core convictions. I know about him cuz my brother idolized him when we were younger - he even went through a body building phase so we read books and articles about old Arnie.

On the plus side, bodybuilding back in the day was basically an 'alternative' lifestyle, and was sort of looked down on. So that probably gave him some sensitivity to those who were different, and is probably why he is pro-gay rights. I think he's probably genuine in those beliefs.

But I have doubts about the rest of his political beliefs. Remember what he said when he was running for gov - "Everything must be provided for the people." WTF does that mean? Nothing really, it was just something to say that sounded good and friendly.

Fuck him. He lost his edge years ago - now he's just another botoxed Hollywood loser. Seriosly the guy hardly looks human anymore - he's a fuckin' freak.

3. Did you also read that he wants to eliminate a mandatory lunch time?
This was discussed on DU the other day. He said it was an unfair burdon on businesses to make it mandatory to give employees lunch time. How about when he tried to shorten the time a stray dog was in a shelter and just kill it sooner...to save $$!

Some of his ideas seem rational, but the ones that aren't are WAY OUT THERE!!!

4. Only change: Republicans don't complain..
higher debt. higher fees for schools, higher costs overruns.
higher taxes. more wasteful spending.

Republican's don't complain. its the only difference.

5. A fraud.
He is a liar and a fraud. He is gutting Social Programs and Education and sinking CA into further debt. Another Rethug with power hungry ambitions. Most Kalifornians that support this Fascist are just plain stupid and star struck.

8. See if you think this is reasonable
Arnold seems to think that simply requiring all Californians to have health insurance will take care of the problem of too many people who don't have health insurance. The idiot just doesn't get it - we don't choose to go without it. We're forced to do so.

and give Republicans control of the legislature, just like in Texas.

10. personally, I think he's a tool ...
He can change any stands or positions deemed 'moderate' at any time he feels it convenient. The powers behind the scene are seeking a vehicle ... a pseudo-leader to carry forth their agenda ... We should never ever change the Founder's codification of eligibility for the Presidency ... they knew what they were doing when they established the criteria.

Photo shows Arnold Schwarzenegger flanked by Warren Buffett and Jacob Rothschild ... Warren Buffett is the corporatist who 'coincidentally' held some 'meeting' at Offutt AFB the same day Shrub* arrived via an elementary school in Florida on Sept. 11, 2001. http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLD,GGLD:2004-33,GGLD:en&q=Buffett+Offutt+AFB

From what we've hear, the Republican hierarchy -- especially those close to former Gov. Pete Wilson -- would favor Schwarzenegger. At least that's the word that came out of the Bohemian Grove this past weekend, where a number of state and national GOPers, including presidential adviser Karl Rove, happened to have gathered at a club getaway ... Months later, former Secretary of State George Shultz and Warren Buffett came on board as Arnold's "advisors."

Mr. Carlyle Group and doesn't-recall-where-he-was-on-11/22/1963 Poppy Bush has buttered him up with some pseudo award ... "I consider George Bush my friend and my mentor. He's my hero. I've known him for over 20 years and I admire how he has devoted his life to serving America. I think he's been known for two great themes in his life - public service and family."
http://rev.tamu.edu/stories/04/120104-11.html

corporations are his friend ... which speaks volumes to me ...

Corporations are ponying up about $350,000 to finance Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's (R) trip to the convention, including a lavish party at Planet Hollywood (taxpayers will be footing the bill for his security).
http://www.dft231.com/aft9_15_2004.htm

to me, he's Tabloid America come to life - a bit scary imo

his rhetoric is often charismatic, i.e., girly man, is pathetic, reckless, immature and uncalled for ... it could even be dangerous depending on the mindset and numbers finding it appealing ... it's divisive for sure ... is this an adult citizen talking this way? I can't imagine Thomas Jefferson using such rhetoric.

11. The senate Democrats kind of like him
because he is so obsessed with image and vulnerable to criticism that he has ended up easier to manipulate than first thought.

But personally I can't help but think... raised by a Nazi, you must have the values of a Nazi.

13. Fuck Him - here's why
Edited on Sat Dec-18-04 09:54 PM by BlueManDude
I'd have more respect for him if he wasn't so blatant about wanting to be president. Why is governing CA not good enuf for this guy? He's been in public office for two years and he wants to lead the free world? Reminds me of the succession of GOP MA Govs we've had - none of whom were actually interested in governing Massachusetts.

15. It's the media culture
Edwards fucked up by not compiling a record of achievement to run on. I like him and he's very talented - but God less than one term in public office and he runs for president? And as a result we lost another senate seat. The media encourages this stuff. No one can just run for governeor for the purpose of bettering their state - it's all about setting themselves up to run for prez. Look what some on this board are saying about Barack Obama. The guy has not served a day in the US Senate and people here are saying Obama 2008. Get a grip people.

16. Republicans like him for two reasons:
1) They can use him to stir up a bit of populism and improve the image of their party.

2) They actually see themselves as "terminator" types - steroidal masses of man flesh, taking no prisoners, blasting through life with an ass kicking attitude. the baddest mother fuckers on the block.

Everyone else likes him as long as they don't know much about him. But the more you do know, the more you understand, and the more you understand, the less you like.
