Kerry slams BoE for Bank of Credit disaster

TIMES NEWS NETWORK
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2004
12:02:49 PM

"LONDON: The defeated US Presidential candidate Senator John Kerry has slammed the Bank of England over its handling of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) disaster and warned that London remains vulnerable to another major scandal.

Expressing his solidarity with the creditors of the BCCI, Senator Kerry told the Sunday Observer newspaper: "The Bank of England failed to supervise BCCI properly."

Kerry is an acknowledged expert on the long-running BCCI affair, having led a US Senate investigation into the rogue bank more than ten years ago.

BCCI, headquartered in London, collapsed in 1991 with undeclared debts of 7 billion pounds. "

Guess he's doing more than vacationing...

3. No prob, thought it would be a nice change of pace
It was posted in the Kerry group area, but I thought it deserved to be out here.

This is an example of the longevity with which Kerry will pay attention to a wrong done, and continue to work on it, even when most people who would vote for him can't even see what he is doing.

8. He could be warming up to report for duty in 2008
Can't be ruled out at this time.

9. Nah, not by doing something that's this low profile
What would he gain? How could it be a warm up to 2008. Wouldn't you want to do something in front of potential voters?

Nobody would see him working for the BCCI complaintants unless they read British news, or in this case, East Indian news.

I find this a hopeful sign for things to come. That's why I wanted to share it.

Think long-term. Don't give up after January.

2. Kerry is a good man.
If he runs in 2008, I will vote for him again. He would make a great president.

5. My favorite at the moment
The other candidates can do and say similar things, and Kerry is still Satan. The abortion issue and the connection to the DLC bounces off of others and sticks to him for some reason. He's the anti-teflon-shoulda-been-president

I am still and will remain impressed as hell with the man.

6. everyone needs someone or something to hate
... for a portion of DU, it's John Kerry ('cause he won the nomination over Dean) and the DLC.

7. But this article shows that Kerry will stick with an issue for years
completely out of the spotlight.

This is what I'm trying to tell those who think everything has to happen here and now. That if he does nothing now, it means he's abandoned the voters. The investigation, litigation and legislation to fight voter suppression and fraud could go on for a while, a great while.

And to me, this article say that Kerry will be there, whether we can see him or not. It's not necessarily about votes. That's why, if he comes up with another idea like his children's health bill I'd hate to see people come up with the "too little, too late" attitude, as if Kerry's only reason for such legislation is to campaign for 2008.

How many of the creditors of the BCCI in London can vote for Kerry? Who in America even knows he's bothering to fight the Bank of England? If all he cared about were votes, he wouldn't even bother with this issue.

This article is a good example of why cynicism toward the man makes little sense to me, and actually seems disconnected from reality.

There seems to be a certain prejudice or bias against career politicians. I don't get that.

John Kerry -- the velcro politician. Instead of teflon, where nothing sticks, he's wearing velcro. Everything sticks.
