So many independent journalists, and such a history!
Also, it publishes the best short fiction around--bar none. And there isn't much good literature published anywhere on even a semi-commercial scale.
Slick fiction? The New Yorker.
Raw, deeper fiction? Harper's.
Both should publish more fiction and poetry, but sadly, our culture is not very imaginative. Advertisers just don't care much about that.
