Repeal the 22nd Amendment?
Do you think that the Repubs will attempt to repeal the 22nd Amendment to allow Bush the opportunity to run for a third term? If I remember correctly, they tried to do it with Reagan, and he refused to let them. I think Bush, with his perceived divine mandate, would allow it, since he feels he is the person chosen to lead the country through the Tribulation. If they win some seats during the mid-term, I think it's possible.

1. I don't think the U.S. will even survive another four years of this.
If that happened, it would be the end, for sure.

2. It would take 67 votes in the senate to pass an ammendment to
the constitution. The dems will filibuster so that it could never happen.

4. Do you honestly believe that?
There are too many DLC Dems in the Senate for me to trust ANYTHING being saved by them.

10. I seriously doubt it
In fact, I would nto be surprised if the constitution is amended more in the next four years than it has been in the past eighty years.

11. I guess we will see.
I just don't tend to see Bush as being as powerful as some on this board do. To me, its defeatism.

21. Two things, though
1) It only takes 60 votes to invoke cloture, and

2) R's have been talking about a plan to do away w/filibusters this session (as there are no real rules guaranteeing the right to filibuster)

22. You and I are addressing the wrong process (I did first).
It really isn't a filibuster. 67 votes are required to pass an amendment in the Senate.

...I think that even many republicans just want the halliburton administration to end.

They're just too cowardly and afraid to say so!

The provision will apply only to presidents in office when the act passes Congress or those who are elected after its ratification.

16. There is a bill in committee to do just that
Edited on Mon Dec-20-04 11:38 AM by NV Whino
It was submitted twice in 2001. Can't find the darn thing at the moment. But am checking thomas.loc.gov

I think it's HR 112 and 125. Both bills have been in committe since 2001. Look for them to move out of committee this coming year.

on edit: It's HR Res 25 (and HR Res 12) I always forget to put the Res in.

Found it: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/D?d108:1:./temp/~bdNtWf:@@@L&summ2=m&|/bss/d108query.html|
